Made it down for this game for the first time in months, mainly due to not being hungover on Sunday morning :D

I think we started with about 50 runners. Great game, I think the shorthanded play suits me a lot better. Would be nice if there was more tournaments like it.

Anyway, I went out in 15th after my AA got cracked by another boardie...

I had about 12K in front of me in the top 3 chip leaders in the tournament. Picked up the bullets on the button, and quickly glanced at them. I had been raising every blind, and playing super aggressive, so I knew I would get a caller if I raised. I threw in 2.5K and got one caller (cant think of his name but he posts here...). He asks if I've even looked at my cards, and I say "I know there good, I'm pushing on any flop". He laughed, still thinking I hadn't seen my cards.

Anyway, flop comes 8 9 Q, and I duly pushed. He called with 10 J.... AGGHHH! I'm basically drawing dead! Why did I have to go and throw 10K into a 5K pot?... because I'm an idiot. Ah welll... theres always next week!

At least show your face and tell me you went on to win it! I'm going to try and make this a regular thing, there should definitely be more shorthanded tournaments in Dublin. There's one in the WSOP I think?

Hence double checking with you that you had actually pushed, I couldn't quite follow what you were up to.

I came 3rd in the end. I donked off about 12k in chips a while after you left in the stupidest and most unnecessary bluff in history which was irritating. I like that tournament a lot too and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

what time does this game start at on sundays?

Yeh, I knew once you called I was a mile behind. The best I could hope for was two pair or even trips, but the flopped straight had me practically drawing dead...

I laughed when you said you were relying purely on luck to get you through the tournament... should have listened more :D

You ruined my record ya fecker... thats the first time this year I havent made the top 10% in a live tourney... figures I'd lose on Aces lol

I was on the same initial table as the two of you and it was an interesting table. Well played.

You weren't the lad who I had JJ vs JJ are you? That was a VERY interesting hand

Yes, I was the guy who 3 bet all-in with JJ.

As you said yourself after, your re-raise was the type that wasn't looking for a caller so I thought it was a pretty standard push.

The other hand was alot more interesting when we ran flush into flush.

Yes, but it was very interesting how it played out. I hate playing Jacks in the first place, and I was going to make the same initial bet as you, 500. I prefer to either take the blinds, or isolate one caller and push on a rag flop.

Anyway, your 500 bet looked like you didn't want a caller, so I raised it up to 1500. Now you had a decision. Flat call isin't really an option, as you'll need to hit a Jack on the flop to be safe. A stop and go is pointless here. If I'm on AA or KK it wont make much of a difference, but by pushing theres a chance you can get me to drop QQ preflop.

Therefore its a push or fold decision. While you were debating this, I was thinking that the worst thing you could do for me was to flat call, as I would be screwed if the flop came low. I was thinking that if you called at least I would have a chance to hit a set, and maybe an A or K would fall to make my decision easier.

If you pushed it was an insta-fold for me, because you had been playing tight enough, and I knew your range on a push here was JJ-AA, with JJ obviously being highly unlikely :)

This is why when you pushed I folded so fast. What is very interesting is that I would have played the hand the exact same way. I would have raised 500. I figure you would have raised to between 1500 and 2500, and I would probably have gone over the top. Position was the key!

To me, from reading your blog occasionally and seeing your posts on this board I think you re-raise with AA or KK there only a small percentage of the time.

My image was tight and passive, I checked down top pair earlier to try and establish something like this. To me, given your image of me, I think you can re-raise there with a very wide range of hands thinking I will only move in with QQ+. Obviously I have a hand like JJ which is ahead of your range imo, so pushing was standard. However I think I can push with a pretty wide range of hands also, as your calling range against me is so narrow. There was a similar hand later blind on blind, where I limped, you raised, I pushed also, and you folded.

As you say position was the key.

Well, you had a good view of how I was playing. My style (not how I typically play tournaments purely because I normally play the sort of tournaments where people aren't really looking past their own two cards) meant that people put me into some strange situations like being forced to call an all-in with JTo or when I called on the flop to bluff with a gutshot and hit it on the turn to knock out another chap. I was pretty sure you guys weren't putting me on hands too easily at least :)

Either way... I had you thinking I hadnt even looked at my cards :), so it made no difference what you had. Would have been nice if the flop had come Jack high though...

Ah well, Oscar said PPP donated the cards so the aces were bound to be rigged
