Registering to vote in Seanad election

Just wondering, does anyone know how graduates register to vote in the Seanad elections? When does (a non scholar) become elegible to register? If the election is April/May of next year, would someone who graduates this year be on the electoral registrar by then?

Main reason I'm asking is I noticed that the electorate is really small for the university panel and was wondering if it's because of a complicated procedure compared to voting for the Dail.

When it's coming up to your final exams you get a letter in the post to register for receiving your degree at commencements in the autumn or whenever your course graduates. With this form they enclose the Seanad voter registration forms. You just fill this in and send it in at the same time and you're registered.

I've heard there can be delays if you register the year of an election but don't know much more than that.

There's also a form that can be downloaded here:

From reading that page 26th february each year seems to be the deadline in order to get on the updated register, so i'm guessing that maybe if a student graduates in Oct they enter the register when it's next updated the following February.

Nope, I don't think so. It has to be a degree, cf. here.

Yeah, I graduated in 2001, and wasn't included in the electorate for the 2002 Seanad election. Was quite annoyed; a friend contacted Ivana Bacik, who looked into the matter, but we were still left without our right.

Yeah, Bachelors, Masters and Doctors of the University all have votes - so once your degree is awarded by the University, rather than the College (e.g. P.Grad. Dip) , you are entitled to your say too.
