we've nothing sorted on the job/accomadation front so we're free to roam a bit initially.

just wondering wheres the best place to stay for a bit of a larf. somwhere you could find a job handy enough too.

was thinking queens but its such a big place.

    help please.

Sunnyside and Woodside in queens are good places to start if youre irish and want to be around lots of irish (and mexicans)

You can get the 7 train from woodside into midtown and it only takes about 15 mins

Rents alot cheaper in queens than in the city too

I went over to NYc on a J1 three years ago and stayed in the Columbia University area, upper West Side and it was the best.Right in Manhattan...I personally wouldn't want to leave Ireland and spend the summer meeting other Irish people.
We went up to the 'Irish' areas for random nights out and ran outa them...saying to ourselves we didnt come over here to hang around with friends of friends so to speak.Stay in Manhattan and go out in Man. you won't regret it.

Agreed. I also stayed on the upper westside near Columbia. Yes, the rent's more expensive than Queens but you might as well be in ireland if you're living in Queens. Found apartment on craigslist.com. It did take a while though, can be very hard to find accomodation in manhattan but it's worth it.

None of us had any trouble finding jobs in manhattan. the money's gonna be better there too. I paid $450 rent a month and earned about $2400 a month waitressing so it was more than affordable
