Sportslink are running courses in the distant future. There is a long waiting list and it will be a few years before anyone get to do it.

Sinead put her name down a few years ago and still hasnt done her's.

If you ask someone at sportlink or Dun Laoghaire Or even Kilkenny archery clubs, they may be able to help!

i've been having fun shooting crossbows over here... its nice and relaxing, i would prob. think of getting one when i get home to work on breathing and focus...

i've been using a few different types of hunting ones (recurve and compound crossbows, and pistol) i would like to get my hands on a competition one to try out in the range at work but we only really do hunting ones...

don't need a licence here, but there is talk of bringing it in...

What sort of price range would a decent crossbow be in?

One of the lads on the Irish Team got his limbs from finland, stock thingy from slovenia. The whole setup inc sight is well over a grand.

How hard is it to get a license for a crossbow? I was told it is easier if you have a gun license. I am thinking of getting one in the states, Do you need to get a letter from a crossbow club?

Also are there only "target crossbows" ie http://www.bowsports.com/acatalog/Spirit.html
legally held in Ireland? apart from crossbows used by vets for humane killing. Would you get a license for something less expensive like
    http://www.whipperleys.co.uk/acatalog/barnett_crossbow_sale.html
which occupies the grey area of crossbows used for Target shooting & Hunting.

I'd be quite surprised if vets were permitted to use crossbows for such since a crossbow would not be a particularly humane way of killing anything.

I don't necessarily disagree with you......It is true though, I know of a vet who does use them for this purpose. They are probably used as an alternative whenever guns are not suitable, or perhaps a throwback to when drugs were less widely used for animal euthanasia.

"Humane Killing" is written into the legislation regarding crossbows.

that spirit thing looks horrible. i presume you can just buy a hunting bow (once you have all nessicary paperwork) and shoot target rather that get stuck with one of them crappy things...

    lets hope anyway.
