Linksys Router questions...

    Hey gang

Just recently installed a LinkSys WAG354G modem / wireless router in my parents house after the old BT modem was giving hassle. However, the thing doesn't seem to support Static IP addresses for individual computers. I tried googling for a solution, but with no luck. In the last wireless router (a Netgear), I could assign static IP addresses for individual computers by their MAC addresses. This was handy for port forwarding, and folder sharing etc between computers. Anybody know how to set up static IPs with the Linksys?

Also, noticed a strange problem: whenever any of the computers on the network (usually a laptop) goes into Sleep mode (Windows XP), then the next time the laptop awakens, it can't connect to the network (starts assigning the IP address, then drops). Computer then has to be restarted in order to connect again. Most of the time, this also causes connection problems for other computer connected wirelessly. However, when a computer hibernates, this problem doesn't exist... whats up?? Most of the laptops on the network tend to automatically go into sleep mode before they hibernate. Anyone seen this?

    Cheers

    Dave

don't have the model u have but on my WRT54G to use static ip addresses, just disable the dhcp server on the modem and then set ip addresses on each of the PC's in the network control panel.

Cheers, could do that alright... but my bro also has a wireless network in his flat so wouldn't the IP setting have to be cleared when he returns?

I'm surprised that such a modern router with other decent features doesn't have this...

as for the coming out of hibernation question, most new laptops can be set to turn off the network port to save battery life when the port is inactive. have a check in your bios and see if that is set.
