Wireless Modem....KAK connectivity!

    Just got DSL and a Xyzel wireless modem....all is fine with connectivity when im plugged in via ethernet but when i go for the wireless option my speeds drop to 256k !!! This happens reagrdless how far or near i am to the modem...anybody got any ideas? The laptop is brand new (DELL Inspiron 6400) all firewall settings etc have been tweaked but still no joy....arrrgghh! Anybody else ever have this prob???

    What Kind of security do you have with regards your wireless connection. This may be the cause of the slowness.

    WEP kills your connecting when encryption takes place depening on the encryption rate. WPA is a whole lot better and safer.

    I dont have WEP enabled, im using mac filters.
    The really strange thing is the comp is showing up to 54mps on the connection speed but yet its taking AGES to open up a simple webpage...eg google.
