Cannot see Munster troubling Leinster based on that..... especially after the 35 23 drubbbing in Jan!

One team on the up one on the down. C mon leinster, Final ticket is booked.

Sick of him saying "Movement in the centre".
He seems to say it everytime the outhalf decides to pass instead of kick.
What's his connection to rugby anyway?

One team on the up one on the down.

Wallace, O'Connell, Stringer, O'Callaghan and Mick O'Driscoll are playing the best rugby of their careers. Leamy and Flannery were hugely influential in the 6 nations campaign. Dowling and Murphy are very exciting prospects for the future. Munster got knocked out of the quarter final stages last year have just qualified for the semis this year. In the process they also put leap frogged Sale Sharks by putting 4 tries past them when they were running away with the Zurich premiership and Sale still seem shell shocked.
I don't think you can say that they're a team on the way down...

Yeah it was Daddy who got Ryle a foot in the door at RTÉ, just a shame he doesn't boot his ass out again. Thought he'd been getting better recently but then watched the England Ireland game and he was simply brutal, although sadly he's the best of a bad lot at RTÉ, Hamilton was atrocious yesterday.

I actually don't mind Ryle Nugent, I can understand why he wrecks peoples heads, but at least he doesn't go around calling Leinster 'Ireland' for the whole match á la George Hamilton. He does tend to get a bit overexcited though.

The other lad with George Hamilton, Conor O' Shea or whatever, he's an awful eejit altogether. He kept on saying random things that had nothing to do with the game.....like at one stage he just went "I think the Leinster guys are gonna go home early" as the camera was panning across the fans. What is that about like?

Now, don't even get me started on Fred the fish Cogley and his coverage of the school's cup. Definitely gone senile.

Rugby commentators are generally getting from bad to worse at the mo. Ye just hav to look at the sky sports crew or Jonathan Davies. But Ryle Im afraid has to right up there. He'd actually fit in quite well with the latter, one wouldn't know what the other was sayin!
They've got the most incredibly irritating voices!!!!

Points taken.............but....... I did not say they were a poor team but based on form and ability of last 5 years they are not as good.
They are just starting a rebuilding after coming of some amazing form, whereas Leinster have been building steadily all this season culminating an RDS drubbing of Munster the away game at end of pool stages and yesterdays miracle which to be fair was as good as or, exceeds and Munster miracle matches of the past.
Toulose were and still are the best, at home unbeaten there in years.

Was great seeing Hooke have to eat his words yesterday he just would not back down!

    Rugby commentary standards are dreadful.

There has never been anyone to come close to Bill McLaren (Sp ?)

One of the greatest commentary tragedies was when ITV got Rugby World Cup rights. They have been consistently woeful.

    Ryle does have limits.

I do not like George Hamilton as a rugby commentator as he gives me the impression that he has studied the laws thoroughly well but has no feel for the game. I fully respect him as a soccer commentator.

Are people advocating the return of Mr. James Sherwin ?

What do we do ? Simple. Fire all those fu***ng commentators and bloody experts and just listen to the ref's microphone feed as they now give the running commentaries and explain the decisions. TV commentators are now superfluous - or should be !

I find "Royale" has grown on me over the years, though its true the overall standard of rugby commentary is pretty poor.

Sometimes when the audio link to some foreign field is lost, its a good thing.

    Mike.

Pundits or Co-Commentators are always excellent imo, with Tony Ward and Ralph Keyes....wonder if they could have a shot at the main role?

I don't see what the bother with Ryle Nugent is...he gets excited, has a bit of passion...that's the main thing isn't it?

I mean we all know what's going on on the field and the "co-commentators" job is for the technical insights, at least he moves with the atmosphere and can shout "OH YES" when horgan goes over in the corner...

As for geroge hamilton, he was the only bad aspect of the Ireland - Toulose game...er, I mean Leinster

His Ma used to go out with George Hook.

No really she did. There's a picture of her with George at a debs dance or something about a million years ago in his book.

I can't imagine I'd like some big fat slobbery corkman publish a book saying: 'I snogged yer ma'

PS I think he's a woeful commentator. Though I suspect we were spoiled for so many years listening to Bill McLaren who was simply the best commentator on any sport I have ever heard ever.

Though Bill Neilly who does some commentaries for Beeb NI isn't bad.

He shouldn't be let near even a soccer match, let alone rugby. He's only there because he's been in RTE for ages. He's such a prat though. No matter what O'Driscoll does he's a fantastic player in Georges eyes. The man is as impartial as a Texas judge.

In summary: get rid of him, not that i'll happen.

I thought George Hamilton was bad, but when I saw Marty friggin' Morrissey interviewing Brian O'Driscoll after the match I nearly died.

Yea, totally agree and the trouble is he says about a hundred times each game.
Its a bad reflection on Blackrock College I think, shows ye what they've been teachin 'em!

If anyone watches Super 14 on Sky Sports, the South African commentator is brilliant. Just his accent like, they should get him up here

I think O'Shea is one of the better pundits - he is not there as a commentator, but as an expert (he was the Irish full back for a good few seasons, and I think he is still MD of London Irish?). It is up to the commentator to stop him from rambling on too much - which personally I don't think he is too prone to.

I just can't stand Ryle, he has no background in Rugby (he was a soccer player in Rock) and nepotism is the only explanation I can think of that he got the job.
He talks incessant shìte, and feels he has to fill every second of silence with his awful brand of explosive verbal diarrhea. For instance, on Saturday: IIRC, a Munster lineout 5 yards from the try-line, any commentator worth his/her salt might talk about what Munster might do, or at least concentrate on the fact that they are 5 frigging yards from the frigging tryline, but instead he bleats on in that execrable bleating nasal whine about what a "flat" game it is.

nepotism? Who has he got belong to him in montrose????

I don't know, but I have heard a LOT of people say that his old man has some kind of connection with RTE.
