What colour can I get a tattoo in apart from black?

I asked about a white one awhile ago, didn't get much encouraging feedback so I'm wondering what other colours I could get a tattoo in? I was thinking red or something. Is it much of a big deal getting a tattoo in a different colour?

I don't want a black one because I both want something different, and don't like how black fades into a purpley colour after a few years. I'm sure other colours fade too, but I just want something different.

You can get a tattoo in any colour you can think of, like paint tattoo inks can be mixed to produce any shade. And no it isn't a big deal getting a colour other than black, every artist l know jumps at the chance to do something different than blackwork.

Yeah I think red ink tattoos look the business myself.
When my right arm is done I'm getting some celtic done in blue on it.

I'm still holding out on white, I REALLY want white, so I think I'm going to go into a few places and talk to some people about it. Other than that, probably red. I don't think I'll have a multicoloured one, just stick with the one colour

Just don't let your red one get any sun for a few weeks or it'll itch every time you're in the sun thereafter.

if you really want white then definitely talk to a few artists and get their opinions, they can tell you best if there's a chance of white working with your skin, if they feel it's possible you'll probably still need a touch up or two after.

If you really want a white ink tattoo go for it! I got one on the back of my neck and it turned out perfect, a guy called Jude did it at a convention a few years ago and he's now working in Ireland. He's a fantastic artist and specialises in white ink tatts. Check out his website, you can contact him through it too.

I know the artwork might not be too original but apart from that I dont see anything wrong. What do you mean?

Wanted to get a white ink Tatt a while ago, went into atattooed in bray, and Chris (??) advised me that for the ink to take well i was to be in perfect health, no anemia, coughs or colds, not on any meds, no drink or drugs STRICTLY for like 6 weeks....decieded against it in the end as i catch everything thats going and didnt weant to end up with a yellow tat that was once supposed to be white!! lol!!

Look at the lines most of them aren't smooth at all.

He is a mediocre tattooist at best, if you consider that people put their best work in their portfolio normally, the technical aspects of his tattooing are not very strong at all.
There is a thing in tattooing called a blend, someone should tell this guy about them, also he never learned the basic skill of drawing a straight black outline, I could go on.

<edit> for the best example of what I'm talking about have a look at that angel thing with the deformed face under the pinup tattoo, the pinup is also one of the worst I have seen, now go put your glasses on and have a look is that angels face bruised cos it looks to me like she had the ****e kicked out of her or something. The colouring of the bunch of grapes is also terrible, it looks like he filled up a shotgun with ink and blasted the back of her head with grape colour, but the blends are terrible. Ah well you did ask, that's not even mentioning the small black dolphin tattoo with the really dodgy outline..... ( or should that be outlines)

I'm afraid I have to agree. This guy's porportions are terrible and his linework is shaky at best. I could do better than this and I *suck*.

The thing about white tattoos is that most artists don't want to mess with them because white is a hard color to work with; you have to work quite hard to get the skin to even take it and it tends to dissappear when you walk out into the rain. That being said, I've seen some very cool white tattoo designs.

If you find a reputable tattoo shop, they should explain to you how the different colors will look with your skin tone. Red is a good color, but it can be tricky to work with and might have to be gone over a time or two. It fades more rapidly than other colors and when people have a reaction to the ink, it's usually red.

**** I'm almost thinking of starting myself cos I have come to the conclusion here over time that the general public have ABSOLUTELY no idea what a good tattoo is.
I appreciate that people dont know technically what is wrong with them always but can people at least see when someone cant draw? It seems not.

You've only realized this now? Man your slow on the uptake. All sense of art goes out the window when tattoo's are involved.
