Is this only very temporary?

I've been on a very bad run for the last 3 weeks, losing over $150 (while that may not sound like much to anyone here, I started with $8 and have no intention of depositing any of my own money).

On top of that, I thought I had lost the knack for STTs. I only ever played STTs in the beginning and was doing quite well. Then all of a sudden I just couldn't beat them. So I changed to cash. I made a surprising amount of money from only playing .05/.10 and .10/.20, much more than I thought was possible. And then , since 3 weeks ago , I haven't been able to make $1 at the cash tables.

Then today I had a sort of an epiphany. I've been sick in bed with the flu so I decided to reread some Harrington and I realised I was playing stupidly tight. It just hit me. What the hell was I thinking, waiting for nothing but premium hands? Betting out with AK/AQ... and then making horrible continuation bets that were never going to work. So I decided to loosen up, not playing trash but relentlessly going for the blinds with semi decent hands Kx, Ax, suited connectors..etc Sometimes any 2 cards. So today I played some $5 STTs for the first time and I have been annihilating them all. I must have played over 10 and only finished out of the money in 1. I have never felt so in control. I felt confident raising and was dominating the tables.

But here is the problem: I'm afraid that I'm just on some incredibly lucky streak and I'll be back to my old ways in no time.

I know this is a bit of a ramble, but I'd appreciate any input.

    Thanks

Happened to me too. Did the exact same thing played cash games and played quite loose on STT's. While I did brilliant for a while, Ended up losing even more money. Knuckled down and reverted back to playing good starting hands and stealing a few more blinds. Doing ok now. But I suppose it's really "swings & roundabouts" when it comes to losing streaks.

Firstly, the level your playing at as no reflection on real poker play and you'll learn very little about poker at that level.

The level you play at is very loose and that why your game as improve since losen up, Harrington is a great book, but its not for beginners or that level of game, you will always make money playing poker correctly, but at that level you'll get outdrawn my to many muppets who dont know how to play.

so this is what you do:

    1. you've learnt the game and are going the right way about it, so well done.
    2. Build up your bankrol and start moving up the levels, you'll enjoy it more and see the standard is better and you'll make more if you stick to good rules of the game.
    3. The only problem about levels, is there is a lot of bad players even at 3/6 cash and 100 stt, so dont be supprise at some peoples play, just take notes and learn
    4. enjoy the game, 100 a month is a cheap form of entainment, so enjoy winning and losing.
