What do all of you guys think about seperating the martial arts forum into two sections.

    Cultural/Spiritual Aspects
    Sparring/Training

I don't want to segregate one art from another, or tma from mma as I think we all benefit from each other but I do tire of these same debates again and again.

think of both forums as a sub-forum of martial arts.. The reason I think this is needed is because we need to differentiate between cultural or spiritual influence over time spent hitting bags or on the mat or whatever..

    Thoughts?

I don't think it will fly with the Admins tbh.

I think these debates are going to happen regardless of what is done to try to prevent them.

    Just my opinion.

    Regards,

    Dave.

TMA/MMA all spar but in different ways (for the most part anyway). That tends to be where the disagreement lies, not in the cultural/spiritual aspects. Everybody's got their own slant on that. So IMO, a split changes noting. You may tire of the same debates over and over (I know I do) but debate, irregardless of its nature, is healthy.

What we need is some more boards meets to demonstrate what it is we mean.

Personally, I think one forum should be able to accommodate everyones different tastes in Martial Arts. But that's just me. Cheers, B.

I think one forum is fine, maybe just write into the charter that your reply to a Cultural/Spiritual thread should be Culturally/Spiritually based and the same with a sparring/training thread (what exactly is a Cultural/Spiritual based thread anyway?).

heck, it doesnt even have to be in the charter if we all just agree to argue like with like.

Note: thinking about it Cultural/Spiritual things dont really belong in a martial arts forum (with the exception of things like tai chi), but thats just my feeling towards martial arts.

I don't think it'd really solve much. Plus the Admins will probably slam down the idea.

Debates are inevitably gonna occur here, regardless of whether we have sub forums or not. I know myself I tire of the debates on occasion, but at the end of teh day it is in fact what is keeping this forum alive, isn't it??

    i think a good idea
would be if there was an forum for training (technique, tips, fitness etc), sport MA (all leagues, international comps, pride etc) , TMA stuff (trad weapons, kata, techniques), Self Defence ( so us parnoid types can be together ; -) etc etc.

I think it would be a good idea for subforums, if there was a larger number of posters. But the fact is there isn't.
Although if thats what u want e-budo is pretty good. Interestingly enough in reference to johns comment about real names you have to register with a proper one there as well or sign the post with your name. Something you could consider for this forum maybe.
