Compaq Notebook Operating System Error

    Hey there,
A friend gave me his laptop and there seems to be a serious problem on it.
Its a Compaq Armada 110 running Windows Me.
When I try to boot it an error appears after the compaq screen comes up that says "Operating System Not Found"

When I try to Re-install the operating system it comes up "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer"

Anyone know how I could sort this out ?

    Thanks

Check in BIOS whether the HDD is detected? (Primary IDE most likely)
If it's not set. Set it (Auto may do the trick) or load defaults...
Otherwise - a cable may be lose, or the HDD buggered, etc. = open up time.

What is so bad about older compaqs (especialy the Deskpro 2000 series) was that they stored the "BIOS" setup programme on the HDD. So if the HDD was not accessable you could not enter the setup program. But if you open up one of the back panels you should be able to find the CMOS battery. Disconnecting it for 30secs will clear the settings and when you reconnect it and reboot, the computer will tell you that it has now restored the default settings and updated the configuration to reflect the detected H/W (e.g. your Hard disks and CD ROM and Floppy)
