Automatically downloading song names etc from the web

    I have a folder full of MP3s. When I view them in Winamp some have the name/artist and some don't. I could add them all manually but would really rather not.

    Is there a program I can get to scan the directory and automatically add the required info to the MP3 files?

    Cheers

    windows media player tends to do that, but the files have to have the id tag filled out correctly

    @mukki
    What I'd like to do is update the ID tags quickly and accurately.

    www.mediamonkey.com

    Uses Amazon to tag files. All you need is the artist name and song title.

    My point is that I don't wanna have to enter any info .. I can enter in the artist name and song title manually for each one if I want .. but it seems like a lot of work.

    How do programs like cdex work these things out? Do they base it on some info on the cd?

    CDDB connects to a webservice, uses the first few bytes of a CD as a key to looking up the details in their database.

    Other systems might use pixie-dust or something, but probably don't.

    Since your MP3s are already ripped you need something that can actually listen to the MP3. That's an AI-complete problem.

    I'll stick to manual then, cheers for the advice.

    musicbrainz mp3 tagger can sometimes work in your case... it can also add fairly random **** to the tags, so you'd be wise to copy the mp3s to a safe location before running it
