Are you saying the domain expires in a few days or is just up for renewal? If it is expiring in a few days you should be able to renew it however if it is just up for renewal in a few days then it could be registrar-locked for another 45 days before you can buy it (if it is not renewed in that time). You will need to look at who it was registered with and check their policy on this.

so judging by the above it says that it expires on the 2nd of April 2006, so is it as simple as registering for the back order and hoping they dont renew it? What happens if they do renew it? Can I contact the above info (which I have blanked out) and ask them if I can buy it off them? Is there any way to tell if they have it up for sale elsewhere because if they do I'd like to put in a bid for it and I'm prepared to pay quite a lot for it.

    Cheers

not sure about the rest of it, but if you contact them and offer to buy it they will 1) renew it and spoil whatever chance you had of getting it for $18 and 2) more than likely say "yes, no problem sir - we will happily sell it to you for ONE BILLION DOLLARS"

so I would advise against that approach.

had a read of that but it turns out that the domain was renewed anyway. its still not in use, how do i go about trying to buy it off the owner? there are contact details in the whois, but is this the best way?

    cheers

How do you know it's not in use?

A lot of people seem to think that just because there is no website on the primary hostname the domain is inactive

In any case you can have a go at contacting them through Afternic

cheers, didnt find it there though:( is contacting them through the whois the only option? I know people can use sites without there being an actual page there but theres a good chance there is no page there so id like to try to get it

if they do want to sell it, what happens? do i have to wait till it expires again or is selling easy and just a case of them giving me the username and password or how does it work?

    cheers

If you can persuade them to part with the domain it's usually a simple enough matter of them pushing the domain to your account with their registrar
