AMD and Cray INC are currently planning the worlds fastest Super Computer, It will have 24,000 Quad Core AMD Opterons at 2.6ghz, they will be housed in 167 water cooled cabinets:eek:

It has between 187 and 400 terabytes of memory, and a mere 11 petabytes of storage:eek:

It may be the first Computer to clock in at 1 petaflop (quadrllion floating-point operations per second)

Its closest rival (the IBM super computer) is a feeble 350 teraflops:D

How about we all pitch in and buy one?? It will help the folding team:p

    Will it have a FDD?

EDIT: I cant actually imagine how powerfull this machine will be.

How big will this thing be anyway, the size of a small house?

Maybe we could link a whole bunch of c64's together to achieve the same effect.

It will be the size of a small warehouse:)

I think they should have got an enermax PSU, they are using this one:

    :D

Why do they need so much storge??? Most CPU intensive number crunching programs are tiny, Prime 95, Super PI.............

Depends what it's doing. The new super collider going into action soon is estimated to create 1 gig of data per second to be analysed. Which by my calculations, would fill a petabyte in 11 days.

I dont think they will be bothering with those. But it is a lot of storage. My guess is that they will be renting CPU time.

The best quantum computer that was made would struggle with PacMan:D

You'd get about 20-30fps at 800x600 with everything on medium and shadows off I'd say
