Thanks to Larry and UCD netsoc for hosting the meeting first of all, as without them we wouldn't have gotten our start. Thirteen people showed up which isn't bad for a first meeting and I reckon we could get it up to twenty for next time if we can get the people to attend who were interested but for various reasons couldn't make it.

We started the meeting with a demo of the xgl desktop on the Kororaa Live CD running on one of the lads laptops. Very impressive eye-candy really futuristic looking.

Then we tried to decide on a name but nothing definite at the moment but we're using dublinLUG as working name.

The LUG is going to be open to everyone and we hope to advertise off-line to attract other people who are interested but aren't part of ILUG or Boards.ie. There also seems to be a big interest in face 2 face meetings once a month and in having the LUG open to people other than just Boards.ie members. Looking at a minimal membership subscription (€2/3 ?) for the upkeep of the LUG (domain name, web hosting, advertising LUG etc) but the first two months will be free.

Next meeting Larry and Rory will be talking about XGL and Bash parameter completion respectively.

I put some stuff together on a website (bear in mind though its a work in progress). The minutes of the meeting etc can be seen here: www.freewebs.com/dublinlug/

Next thing we need to do is organise where we'll hold our meeting. This should be agreed soon so we can get the word out.

    Jaqian
