I had an interview the other day and now they want me to do some psychometric testing. I have never heard of this. Obviously, I've done some aptitude tests before but does anybody have any experience of this form of testing. I called the company who will be testing me and they sent me a very brief outline of what it involves but I was told these tests will last approx 3-4 hours  I'm doing them tomorrow so any advice and example material would be great. I'll also do a quick google but would prefer to hear of peoples experiences. Also, should I purchase a test book?

No need for books - its been two years since I did one but they are fairly straight forward - either based on ability or based on personality - you can't really study for a personality one - there are some online at http://www.psychometrics.co.uk/.

I completed mine in 45 minutes and IMHO it was fairly accurate. I did it to see what type of career would suit me. 3/4 hours is a bit OTT but there is no guideline. Can't remeber many questions though - some were what would you do if this happened type of thing and given 5 choices.

    Hi There

Some years ago I did an interview for a major Pharma Co. which involved Psychometric testing.
The process involved (then) some of the usual "head " questions...if you were a colour what would you be etc...
Also there was a role playnig section involving you and other candidates acting out various roles...ours was a newspaper team trying to get their stories on the front page...

In all the process took 3 hours after which I had another interview where I informed them that I no longer wanted the job...The look of shock on their faces was worth the three hours!! The assumed everybody in Cork wanted to work for their company!!

To sum up the testing seemed to me to eliminate people with any form of originality and find people who are happy to work like the unispired automatons that they require....
