Hi, I'm trying to get a phone and fax line installed and the cost is fairly large - €121 ea connection and €20 rental ea before calls. just wondering
    1. is there any alternative to eircom i could try
    2. is Skype-in available yet, if so does the number seem like a "regular" irish no. and how much does it cost, good quality?
    3. is there any way around my fax dilemma - ie could i receive thru a different medium eg my pc?

    Thanks in advance

If you can get broadband from some source other than a phone line (such as cable, wireless etc) you should be able to get all of the above. Availability depends on where you live. Of course these would work with DSL broadband too but you'd still have to pay the line rental, installation etc. Dunno about skype in, but you could use blueface for voice over IP. There's plenty of internet fax outfits out there too, don't know anything about any one in particular though.

thanks for the reply, yes, i have broadband metro which is good enough for the internet but i find the quality of their phone line was terrible. i couldn't risk someone calling me on an unintelligible line, and i wish to have a definitive number as getting stationery etc printed. just checked and skype-in isn't in ireland yet, any idea when they might become available here?
