Oblivion - Fighting while on horse?

Is it possible?
I mean it just sucks that if someone attacks me while im on a horse i have to get off it to fight back. Should at least be able to cast magic or use a bow or something.
Have not tried yet but can your horse run people down?

Yeah I kind of expected to at least be able to fire a bow from horseback, but that doesn't seem to be the case I'm afraid. Same goes for running people over as far as I can tell. You can, however put your horse between you and your attacker when you get off to fight. If he/she hits the horse trying to get you the horse will fight with you! Handy for low levels, especially if the horse is yours as they're pretty tough and sure can kick. My horse killed a wolf no problem for example.

if youre playing on the pc, there should be a mod for it out soon, i cant wait for it though they should have put it in the game in the first place.
