    hi.
i'm considering replacing my 3 yr old dell inspiron 2650.

i'm interested in something with these specs:
    14 or 15 inch screen.
something relatively lightweight , not necessarily ultraportable but under 3kg.

    60-80gb (80gb preferably).
    512-1024mb ram (1024 preferably).
    wi-fi (i suppose intel centrino).
    dvd writer.
decent battery life (over 3 hrs if possible).
and if possible bluetooth, a card reader and maybe an integrated tv tuner.

i'm looking to spend anything up to 1700-1800 euro (2000 at a stretch).

i have mainly looked at hp and dell machines. in particular i am considering the hp dv 1000 and 4000 series and the dell xps m140.

anyone with any suggestions about these or any other systems?

i would really appreciate some advice on this,
    thanks.

    thanks for the reply.
i don't need it for high-end gaming or for any serious multimedia multitasking.
but i want something that is fairly decent and fast and futureproof for the next 2-3 years. i'll use it mainly for fairly routine tasks including word processing , internet and email access, storing /watching dvds, a bit of photo editing with my digital camera, watching tv with a tv tuner and also to run programs like skype.

i gather that dvd rewriter, wifi and usb2.0 are standard nowadways so these are a given, i suppose.

but i wouldn't mind also things like bluetooth and a tv tuner if possible.

what dell model would you recommend. what about the dell xps m140?

btw, what/ where is the dell outlet store. is this b and m or online. sorry!
    thanks again.

    anyone with any other suggestions.
