Is it showing up on the system as an external drive? Try loading on the latest ipod software (not iTunes) and restore the ipod (this will delete all the songs on the ipod,

Yeah it is showing up as an external hard drive. Is there any other way around it? Cos i would rather not have to reset my ipod and then have to wait hours for all the songs to be loaded back onto it!

If you've downloaded the latest software it sounds like the cable link is Ok.
    Have you "Googled" the problem?

If there anyway i can back up the files on my itunes? I would like to un-install it and re-install it to see if it helps at all!

Ok a little more info. When i connect me ipod to my pc it comes up as an external drive. When i open itunes it doesn't pick up my ipod. Ive reset my ipod and it hasn't helped. I can't update it to the latest version of the ipod software because my pc isn't recognising it as an ipod, which also means i can't restore it. I've also made sure i've the latest usb drivers installed. Can anybody help me PLEASE?!

    Cheers
