You only need a science subject for certain degrees. (Being science degrees and the like.)

Thanks for your reply. So does this mean that if I don't want to get a career which involves science like accountancy. I don't have to take Science?

Fairly sure yep. Though keep in mind if you don't take any science subject that's basically blocked off any science degrees from you.
Accounting however does not require science. (I am almost positively certain of this but you'd best be discussing things with your career guidance counsellor just to be safe.)

At the same time, its useful to do a science subject. Just like its useful to pick a foreign language, and art subject and a business subject.

Ew Business. They're only good for a few degrees; commerce, economics, bess, accountancy and the like.

No business for me ever :)

It's always good to have a Science subject because many courses (that you wouldn't even think need anything sciency) require at least 1 science subject. That said, of course it is not essential and if you're not doing any of those courses then by all means don't do Science. I don't think colleges restrict entries if they didn't study Science but I would recommend doing it if you enjoy it (which you clearly don't..lol!)

What are you thinking of doing in college? just interested...

Have a modern foreign language anyway. Unless you have your heart set on Trinity which will accept an honour in Irish as a foreign language. And will also accept Latin instead of Maths.

But all other colleges require you to have a modern language afaik.

No, with the exception of the RCSI, there is no need for a science subject such as chemistry, biology or physics for entry into 3rd level. If you really don't like junior cert science, and feel you'll not enjoy, or be good at these 3 subjects, don't feel like you have to do them.

I'd assume that not liking any of these subjects you're not interested in a career in maths, science, engineering, health sciences etc? Because you'll find it difficult to get into these courses with out Leaving Cert. Science in some form.

Pick your best and favourite subjects for the Leaving Cert.

I suspect for certain engineering course there is a requirement, or at least a preference for at least one science subject.

I was at NUIG's open day and quite a lot of their science courses required at least one science course to be taken at LC level.

I want to do something to do with media, art or fashion - would I need a science subject?
