I listed a few places that supply old style reg plates in the 'Suppliers & Specialist' thread.

I also know of a guy in Meath who supplies old style pressed reg plates (can PM details if you wish).

I got mine in J&S Autoparts in Dun Laoghaire. Cost me €45 IIRC.
The lettering is raised by emboss, but I think you're after the plastic lettering.

    Here's a photo of mine.

Monplate in Carrigtwohill co. Cork make the old style pressed plates from the 60's and early 70's their phone number is 021-4883127.

If you want ACE-style plates (black with raised silver digits) try www.headfortmg.com/links.html

While 'french style' (i.e.modern small digit) plates look well on the Citroen above, they look out of place on most other classics.

Plates like this (i.e. large digit) are more appropriate on Irish classics -

    150euro

I have used this crowd in the UK a few times and am happy with them

    www.vintage-plates.co.uk

Order over the web. Take about 2weeks and quality is very good.

Different styles and white or silver raised letters.

    Costs approx 45euro including postage

PS. Didn't original Irish plates have a red background for the rear ?

Got mine at the motor factors in Navan SC for €25. They look the same as ds20perfect's.

I thought the old plates had a red background with black plastic letters rivited to it. I could be wrong though, I'm only 22 and it's based on a faint memory.

Looking for the old style number plates for my mk3 cortina - the type with the individual raised plastic digits. Does anyone know when this style of plate was discontinued here. The rear plate should be red, and front white - I think.

i would like to hear if you find a supplier........the best choice I think for a 70's car and Oh So Irish.......

Our disasterous 1980 Audi 80 used to have them kind of number plates, white at front and red at rear, they were a pain once the grip washers holding the numbers on came loose, was always my job to "back marker" in the missing ones!! I think they may have lasted another year or two after that, when the plastic plates replaced them. Normally there's always a stand at the Car Shows where they make them there and then for you, if you can wait that long!!:D

I have been 'keeping an eye out' for a supplier of red rear plates for quite a while now.

    - Steve Frampton (a UK plate maker) told me that he may soon be able to supply red rear plates to Irish customers. Contact himthrough his site - www.buy-a-plate.com

    - I was also told that Broadside Motor Factors (Waterford ?) can supply red rear plates in perspex (i.e. as many garages used here in the late 70's/early 1980's).
    www.broadside.ie

Somebody out there must be able to make up red plates as I saw a Fiat 128 (at the City West sale last year), with a ZV reg, with a (new) red rear plate.

(If anybody here is going to the City West show this year perhaps this Fiat (or another car) will be there and ye could ask them where they got the plates - and let us know?

N.B. - Red rear plates were first introduced in Ireland in 1969 and were legally allowed up until Dec 1986.

I'd say Monplate make them too, they used to make them when they were current.

Red rear (and white front) plates - with plastic digits attached - were still being fitted to cars up until the end of the 'old style' registration system in Dec 1986.

I know of one supplier here in Ireland who threw out dozens of such plates (and plastic digits) within the last year or two! :(

    Not Your Ornery Onager

One of the motor factors on Dorset St (near Blessington St) used (? not sure about now) to be able to get the black plates with original raised (bevelled) letters. Cost something like £6 per letter though. That's IR£.
