    Astra 1, 19.2E

Das Erste, ZDF, your choice of regional "third channel", Das Vierte, RTL, RTL II, VOX, Pro7, Sat.1, Kabel Eins, MTV, Eurosport, Euronews, Bloomberg, Nickelodeon, Ki.Ka, D:SF, VIVA and a hell of a lot more up there, FTA digital. Theres about 40 non-german FTA channels there too including Sky News, BBC World, some Italian, Polish, Spanish and French stuff.

Yuthere are heaps of FTA channels if you speak the lingo :). I got the entire system (box, 80 cm satellite, mounting, cabling, little sat finder yoke etc.) from conrad.de for around 140 euros delivered. The mounting could be a bit sturdier though, I get pic break up in high winds. A friend braced the roof and installed and aligned the dish using the sat finder. If you have a Sky dish up there already, thats the general direction ...
Edited to add: Eurosport is no longer FTV/FTA

    see here
    http://www.lyngsat.com/astra19.html
Only Clear / MPEG2, not encrypted ones

    and here
    http://www.lyngsat.com/hotbird.html

it isn't too hard to get both of these with two LNBs on an 80cm dish

Minimum 80cm dish recommended. A FTA receiver about 85 Euro no modulator and about 115 Euro with an RF modulator to feed another room.

SCART cable on RGB is best connection to TV. I got my system from www.satellite.ie, including a Motek motor (will cost you about 100 Euro extra and allows about 20 satellites)

checked out the satellite dot ie website and all they seem to sell is strong receivers, so if you are interested in sat tv as a hobby please avoid strong receivers, there are much better receivers on the market for similar money

Wrong we do not only sell strong recivers
You say avoid strong receivers but A. you dont give any reasons why they should be avoided and B. you dont give any alternatives that you say are better for the same money.

Next time you make a post commenting on my business get your facts right first!
I wonder what exactly your agenda is for making such comments?

We will see how many posts past the 3 without being insulting.

Steve the original Poster is not looking for a Mad "hobby" system like Dreambosx or something but simply asked about German. There is a very haigh proportion of German TV FTA and lots of it. The most absolute basic receiver will do.

    Not a "Hobby" system.

To me a "Hobby system" would do "blind search" at least. Those are not comparable price.

I install a lot of Strong receivers, and I don't see what you find wrong with them. Failure rate is very low.

What model are you saying is rubbish, as certainly not all models can fall under that term.
