Knights of the Columbanus

What do you think of this lot? I was at an excellent debate in their beautiful georgian building on Ely Place last Friday on bio-ethics. Whilst there are many cheery old guys in the Knights, I did meet several younger guys (well relatively so at 35) who made me feel really welcome.

I don't really know a lot about the KOTC to be quite honest, but my first impressions are that they are a well grounded group of individuals who look out for each other and the interests of the Church in turbulent modern Ireland.

The Arch-Bishop of Dublin himself will be talking there this Friday at 8:30 if anyone is interested. There were some really articulate speakers there on Friday last (both on the panel and from the floor). There'll even be fish canopes and refreshments afterwards!

Eh not sure actually. I don't think there's a title to the talk...

They are a lovely bunch of people. Very interesting. Have attended a couple of times and found it quite enjoying.

Just, er, standing up there saying the first thing that comes into his head? Maybe just chatting, then?

    Actually, that sounds quite fun.

Fair play to the KOTC for organising such a great talk there on Friday.

Micky Harte (Tyrone footballer) will be speaking this Friday from 8!

Fair play to the KOTC for organising the protection of and silence about paedophilic priests in the diocese of Ferns.

And let's not forget to give them credit for all their other intrusions into the democratic running of the state.

    For example?

And I suppose you'd be anti-union, anti- lobby groups (such as GLEN, IFPA, etc.) that try to influence change in things they really feel strongly about?

So you think the KOTC and its members should shut up and keep to themselves? That KOTC members should not influence societal affairs in their day to day work?
