Mate cant find passport - has a driving licence.
Flying to UK this evening - will both Ryanair and airports here and the UK accept the driving licence?

Ryanairs Terms & Conditions say it's ok, but then state a passenger should carry a passport at all times.

Has anyone ever gone with just a Driving Licence or can give a definate answer?

    Thanks a mil

Only Ryanair can give you a definitive answer on 1530 787 787

Everyone else will be going on their own experiences, which can be different from one Ryanair agent to another.

At least if you get confirmation over the phone and a contact name your fully covered.

Save yourself a few bob on the premium rate nonsense and call them on 01-2497791. It's the same number that the premium rate terminates on.

Should be no problem with the licence, i have used my provisional a few times, they only really check the ID at check in for flights between Ireland and UK, and if you get stopped on the other side they do accept it.

I've never had any problems with flying to and from the UK with Ryanair and my driving licence.

In their terms ond conditions they explicitly state that a driving licence, with a photo is valid ID for people born in Europe for specific flights - internal flights in one country or flights between the UK and Ireland - ie - flights where you don't needa passport anyway.
Al other flights need other forms of ID, which they list.

If your mate was born outside Europe, but lives in Ireland and has an Irish driver's licence, he might be snookered if he doesn't find his passport.

Flew with them last weekend with driving licence and it's fine.
You do not need a passport for UK.
They only want photo ID, doesn't matter to them whether it's DL or P/port.

In UK now they take your picture when you pass into departures area and then when you are boarding the flight, they check that photo against the photo of the person who is trying to board the flight to make sure it is the same person!
