Apologies if this is the incorrect forum.

The college have banned bebo, and apparently there are ways of bypassing this. Any ideas

How about using the time and energy you used on this silly site to do what one normally does in College?

Sometimes sys admins only ban the fqdn. Try accessing it directly using the IP address. Sometimes works for me behind the work firewall on some sites.

I'm gonna take a wild guess that Tackle69 goes to Fundalk, like myself. use one of the proxy websites, they banned GhostProxy, and another one, but there are a few other sites you can use, google them

oh and if you use the IP address, you will not be able to see any pictures

You *******. Well... i can only hope the admins notice people still on bebo and cop onto this. I deliberately didn't tell him that :p I was hoping he went to UCD and UCD had banned bebo. Its stupid when you need to use a computer and you see 1/3 of the computer room farting around on bebo. Makes me angry i tell you!

Thats also true, and sometimes when you log into something like bebo, it redirects you to the fgdn again - which will block you.

try www.unblockthis.com I heard of it on the Gerry Ryan show last week.

Most colleges in Ireland, connected through HEAnet are likly filtered by Web(non)Sense. This only blocks by URL. So "www.bebo.com" is blocked under Web Chat, but "bebo.com" is not. Also the direct IP approach works as well.

People in WIT are trying to block it, but it is not completly blocked, and this leads me to conclude that a) WIT's C/S are not aware of the "loophole" or b) WIT's C/S are not able to access the Websense Manager in order to make changes to sites blocked or unblocked, otherwise bebo would not be accessable.

If colleges use there own solution to block bebo (such as CensorNet or DansGuardian) then you can try those lovely proxy sites, if they are not blocked, or you can use an SSH tunnel (SSH is blocked in some places though).

My college did that, but they use a few different proxy servers. If you can find out the address of a proxy server that does not have sites blocked ie a server the lecturers use, you can enter it into the internet settings.
Alternatively, you can download mobile firefox and use that. It didnt go through proxy for me, just gave me a direct connection, so I had even more privilidges than the lecturers! LOL!
