Proof of address(i.e an official letter addressed to you) and some form of ID afaik.

You'd need your passport and official proof of address at least. If you don't have a utility bill, you'll need a letter from an official body with your name and address on it.

I don't know if they'll give you a student account though, if you're not in 3rd level education.

You shouldn't need a parent AFAIK. You should really ring them up and ask though. Talking to someone is a lot more helpful than emails.

Possibly two forms of ID... better safe than sorry.

I remember when I opened my first bank account... at... eh... the age of 21 or so... I just keep going around bank after bank untill one of the accepted a passport and a phone bill. It did mean I ended up with EBS... they low standards for their members.

You need Your Passport or drivers licence ( judging by your age, i doubt you have a drivers Licence) and A utility bill, (I remember when i was 16 i used my mothers phone bill, she was with the same bank) failing that, Your school can provide a letter.

any reason why you picked Permanent TSB?

Yeah as others have said, you will need your passport and a letter from an official body with your name and address on it. Tried opening an account myself not so long ago, it was absolutely ridiclous! I had no official bills as I was living at home and even my PPS number being posted too me wasn't sufficient, and then they wanted a letter of introduction from one of my parents who are with them!

And what irritates me further is that two years ago when the 365 cards came in and they were running promotions at the Young Scientist Exhibition in the RDS my sister who was 15 at the time opened up a full bank account with ATM access that day with absolutely no ID!!! How the times have changed...

Ah I remember my first account. I was 14, I think it was called an 'Excell' account, I had it with the BOI. Anyways I had to put in £5 to get it started, needless to say, many thousands have passed through it now, and I have the same account number.

SM666, Id say use P-TSB, they have free banking, but BOI do aswell, aslong as you have €500 always in your account.

I'd be interested to know how you get on trying to open a current bank account. I closed mine down two years ago after a major problem with a direct debit I had not mandated. Some weeks ago I wished to move from pay as you go mobile to bill pay, neither O2, Vodafone nor Meteor would accept cash payments and insisted I set up a direct debit (A total different saga for another day) Not seeming to have any choice I attempted to set up a new current account with both AIB and BOI. However both told me they would not set up accounts just to pay direct debits ! Furthermore BOI told me as I was self employed they would only open an account if I furnished my books !

These are the very same banks who have been robbing our accounts, overcharging and selling tax evasion policies. I am dammed if I am going to be treated like a criminal by these crooks just to open an account and put my money into their banks. How about the cashier supply us the customer with the photo IDs and current utility bills of all the banks directors and show me their current tax clearence certificate. Irish banks are beneath contempt !
