Zen Vision M problem! Help needed!

Got a new Vision M from the States today. Here's what has happened so far:

Plugged in Zen Vision M to charge it.
Tried to turn on unit as it was charging.
Creative logo appeared followed by Zen logo.
Then the screen went black and the buttons did not function.
The buttons and power light remained on and holding the power button would not turn them off.
Have reset but the same thing happens.
Have cleaned firmware but problem remains.
Tried to reload the latest firmware but when it got to the stage where the unit reboots itself it reset and then the same thing happened - logos followed by black display with buttons and power lights lit.

I have sent the above to Creative's tech support but would be grateful if anyone here could help!

Funny, same thing happened to me. I just reset it a couple of times and it worked again. If it doesn't for you, then it's down to the Gods.

hmmm... that's not very encouraging! thanks though! glad it's not just mine.

creative have told me to totally drain the battery so that it won't even turn on and then charge it up again. may also have to reload the firmware or format.

Well, Creative's solution of running the battery down and then charging again didn't work! They are now suggesting that it may need to be replaced and I should send it to them.

I got a friend to pick the player up in Boston for me and I now have it here in Ireland. I know the warranty is probably US-only but does anyone know if Creative in Ireland will repair it for me? Or have any suggestions about what else I can do?

    Thanks

Eh... ask Creative and find out!

    YIKES! HALF AN HOUR!!!

    *BANGS HEAD OFF DESK*

I've never found Creative to be anything but helpful, in all fairness... but you MAY run into difficulty because of it being an American unit. Really, I don't know why people buy them in the states - you don't save THAT much money and it's more hassle in the long run.

Anyway, - let us know how you get on, yeah?

    I will keep you posted!

I actually saved about €100 on it over there. It was $299 on J and R which worked out at €265. And I needed to get a pink one as it was for a gift and if it was any other colour I would have been too tempted to keep it for myself!

Ok. Rang Creative. The guy was pretty helpful. I told him it was from the States and he didn't mention it being a problem.

I have to ring them back and give them my serial number so they can authorise me to send it in for them to look at.

They will either fix it or send me a replacement (which is a bit annoying as I don't think they have the pink one here yet).

    Fingers crossed anyway!

So I got an RMA and sent the unit back to Creative last week. I had a tracking number so I know it arrived with them on Tuesday. I checked the status of the RMA everyday and it was finally updated on Friday to say they received it on 7/4/06 and were testing it. I checked again this morning and it now says a replacement was shipped this morning at 8.15. I haven't received any emails from them so I'm assuming that they didn't fix the problem and have sent me another unit. Which more than likely won't be pink like the one I sent them as they don't have it on sale here yet.

Yeah, they just generally replace them instead of repairing them. I'm sure they'll try to replace it with the same colour unit ... if they have one around that is...

FWIW, there should be no difference in the US and European versions beyond the adapter plug. The same adapter is used in both the US and UK ones - the only difference is the pins, which actually slide in seperately.

I got one in the states as well (same place as the poster) and haven't had a bother. New unit should be fine and, if you're like me, you'll love it and give it a name. Mine's called Zenny...

Have spoken to Creative and they said that they sent me a black one. Didn't expect to get the pink back if they were just replacing it but would have liked to have been given a choice of what they do have (green, blue and black).

I was thinking of getting one from the states - so by what you are saying about the AC adpater there you can just get a US to European adapter plug and it will work fine? i.e. the AC adapter takes both 110V and 220V??

    Cheers,
    Mickey.

Replacement (black) arrived this morning. Seems to be working ok.
