I bought twice in the last 5 years from this crowd. The last time was 2 years ago. I presume that the site is still up to date, because the price is still the same as the first time and included delivery to Ireland. I could not find a better price when I first found them. I bought the PWX 500 models. I wanted them for a caravan. I have 2 panels and they do my lights, radio, waterpump and quite a bit of colour TV. Also laptop when needed.

SEI grants are for solar heating only, not power generation. That may follow in time though.

As long as the ESB have their way there will be no grant aid for renewable power generation.

Good point CJH but I think the day of the ould monopoly is coming to an end in most cases here in Ireland. Also, I don't think the ESB will be able to continue to provide the necessary power required here forever

CJ - I'd agree with you there, ESB are in a position of power regarding access to the network etc, and probably have a few vested interest barriers against giving grants to the general public for power generation at even the smallest level.

Techno - I'd also agree with you that things are changing, if at a snail's pace. The one thing you can be guaranteed of in this world is change and it will come, even to monoliths like the ESB / Irish govt.

I got one from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Aire-and-Sun-Power-Systems-Ltd and they were excellent.

Next question here lads and ladies is this. Assuming I can source panels, are they any use and are they worth spending the money on?

It depends on what you want them for. See my post above. See what power you want and how much it would cost. Then you will know if it is worth it.

You'll notice how none of the SEI grants covers things that could take business from the ESB. The omission of wind generators and the inclusion of solar only for non-electricity generating use is a scandal.

    Hello Techno,

We got some solar systems from a company up the North for some of our customers and it was very good value.

    The kit includes
    6.1 sq meters of panels
    Hot water cylinder
    Fitting kit
    Ant-freeze fluid

We sell it at EUR 3550 plus delivery and fittings and there is a grant of EUR 1830 available for it.

Let me know if you are interested in hearing more.

    Regards,
    Ned

was at family members house for the weekend, they have the solar panels, i could not beleive how hot the water was and the constant supply, even though the sun was not high in the sky, i am now serioously thinking of installing this solar, they showered, washed clothes and washing up without putting on emmersion or the oil heating, what are the prices like this time round

For a normal household needing 200L of hot water storage, you should be able to get a system for about €4k, Less the grant. A bit more for larger systems
