I doubt anybody will know here. You could try some french sites or check the french embassy websites to see if you can find out, or just contact the french embassy and ask. Some countries allow people your age to drive very small mopeds but even 50cc is capable of reasonable speeds so I wouldn't be too optimistic. You certainly wouldn't be allowed drive it in Ireland at 14, sorry.

Ah right, I can't say for France but Germany allows the test to be taken in English, so there is hope!

I would assume that you have to get a license for a 50cc - there a space near where I live where driving schools train bikers and one sees the odd 50cc moffa type device with someone on it getting lessons from time to time.

The driving test in France (and lessons preparing for same) are serious stuff. Everything has to be done perfectly to pass the test. It is very different to the half baked procedure in Ireland.

There is a written test which is only in French. At 14 years of age you should be able to pick up the required driving lingo fluency in Franch in a fortnight - if you speak English already (which is 50% made up of French words mis-pronounced using the Saxon alphabet!)

Buy one of those driving test preparation courses on CD in your local FNAC to learn the terminology if nothing else.

If you have managed to pick up a driving license in another part of the European space (ie EU/EFTA) at the age of 14 you can use that in France.

Depending on what part of France you take the practical test, chances are the tester will speak English - but if you want to get a French license why not learn the lingo?!
