Word from GDC is that the Revolution's "Virtual Console" service will have to do without the Rare classics, including the great Goldeneye.

Reports coming out of the US from the Games Developers Conference are suggesting that Nintendo's Virtual Console service (its planned retro classics downloads for Revolution) will lack some of the big name games belonging to the now Microsoft-owned Rare.

Apparently both Microsoft and Rare staff have confirmed to that back catalogue Rare titles like Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini and Conkers Bad Fur Day won't make it onto the retro download service. Perhaps most importantly of all the seminal Goldeneye will also be MIA, unless both Rare and new license holder EA manage to agree a deal.

This is sure to be bad new to all prospective Revolution owners looking forward to relive some retro treats. But It's not all bad news, Rare titles which are owned by Nintendo including the Donkey Kong games and Diddy Kong Racing will be making an appearance.

With any luck Nintendo, Rare and EA will get together in the near future to broker a deal that will allow Goldeneye to make it onto the download catalogue, we certainly hope so.

    Bugger.

It's a shame but I expected this to happen, Microsoft don't like to share.

That's a real shame. No chance of it appearing on Xbox Live Arcade either, I guess. :(

Ah but have you considered the delights of Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting?, surely the game Xbox Live was created for!. Oh and BTW NekkidBibleMan, you live in Japan right?, any news on when we'll see the Revolution dude?..

You know about as much as me, I'm afraid. I was at Nintendo HQ not too long ago actually, but all I got for my efforts was a shiny annual report :\

Though on a related note: DS Lite is NICE.

Ah well, thanks anyway, I'm sweating on a Summer release but I realistically expect it to be out by Christmas (In Japan with the EU following suit, ooh about nine months later!). Argh!, I've a DS myself but for some weird reason I'm compelled to buy the Lite, I mustn't succumb to the marketing pressure!.

Shame bout Goldeneye, i would have thought Nintendo would make that one the "must get games" for the Virtual Service...maybe even update it to use the Rev's controller features for aiming...oh well guess it'll remain a dream

Of the HQ or the report? None of the HQ, but suffice to say, it's probably the last place you'd expect to find the defining games of our generation brought to life - a large, dull grey, faceless building, almost especially so.

The Annual Report is given out to shareholders at the end of every financial year, and contains an overview of the company, an appraisal of last year and expectations for next. It also provided a full set of financial accounts for year ending March 31st 05, with some pretty interesting figures. For instance, net income, in a year where they had to heavily finance R&D on a number of projects, was a pretty impressive $817 million. They've also got cash assets of over $7 billion. And they say Nintendo 'lost' in the last console war? :)
