According to Hotpress, the "Hi-Fi Festival" is taking place in Mullingar on August 5th & 6th, with Faithless, The Streets and the Prodigy headlining, but is as yet unconfirmed. Does anyone have any further info on this? Is it happening? Is it a camping festival? And how much are the tickets and when are they on sale?

Yeah, whats the story with this Hi:Fi feestival? Is it gonna be a sister fest for the same festival in England?
And how much are the tickets

Think its MCD running it so ya better start saving soon

I could see Prodigy headlining it as they are playing at the Isle of Wight festival thingy, that would nearly make me go.. but it wont, go on the Picnic!

Im really quite surprised... I was expecting MCD to announce the lineup directly after the Electric Picnic went on sale in an effort to cut into their clientelle but nothing. This almost lends some weight to the idea there may be significant oxegen tickets in the wings and they dont want to undercut themselves.

of course there will be oxegen tickets knocking about soon..sold out me ar*e!

No Faithless?? They gotta anounce them soon! Although I'm still not sure if I'd pay €130 for this one.

Will there be day tickets? or will it be like Electric ****e, with weekend only tickets.

Are you ripping on Electric Picnic because of the lack of day tickets or has the backlash begun or what Im confused. Id have tagged you as in the same office as clum if only his reply lumped hi-fi in the same boat as you slagged.

Having said that Clum I apologise though for calling you a viral marketer.. Youve shown that you arent afraid to pass on the information the big boys dont want out just yet and I know we can count on you to leak us the Oxegen timetable :-D. Ive no problem with mcd employees.. just the head honcho.

went to EP last year and loved it, only went for the day thought. This year its awful, only weekend pass which are quite pricey and there isn't really anyone on the lineup who I would say I have to see. For those two reasons i would claim it to be ****e. Others will say the lineup is great and they can afford a €200 plus concert ticket, not everyone can.

The lineup for HIfI looks great, so far, and i'd say I may end up going for the weekend, but not having day tickets is a bit 'Irish'.

Electric Picnic is trying to recreate a Glastonbury-style festival in Ireland. As far as I'm aware Glastonbury only has weekend tickets, and it's certainly not just about the music. There's a whole load more to do while in the venue.

Hi:Fi, while also trying to recreate an 'eclectic' festival, is an option for MCD to take potential customers from Aiken and line their own coffers.

I'll be at both festivals, I'm looking forward to both, but until I experience MCD's offering on the August Bank Holiday I'll be looking forward to the Picnic that little bit more...

For the last two years the timetable for Oxegen has circled around email world a week before the concert itself and has appeared in the tabloids on the Saturday of the weekend.

Pick up a paper for a euro on July 8th rather than paying 10 for a laminated timetable.

Im not gonna try convince you otherwise about the lineup but this is just misinformation. Its 180 euro with the booking fee. Or 45 euro more than hi-fi for an additional day. 15 euro more than oxegen. yes... 15 more euro... for an additional DAY.

added to that the lineup is far better and it's not a complete ****hole like oxegen.

HiFi will be crawling with complete scum, worse than oxegen.

Yes it's €180 + €20ish for a bus ticket, which i would have to buy so i included that in my calculations. If you want to get specific about cost you can add in the cost of taking a day off work, maybe two if taking monday off, into the equation so you to get full value for your €180.

I'm not saying that 180 isn't value for money if you like the bands that are playing over the 3 day. But for me its a bit rich.

Let's get real here for a minute Noelie. If you include the 'cost' of taking a day off work, then this means that people on high-wages are paying SO much more for a holiday than people who are on minimum wage.

Of course, yes 200e is expensive, it's all relative to how rich you are and how much you want to go. But we can't talk here about adding in costs of days off work. Most people with jobs can take it as holidays anyway, so that means you don't 'lose' any more money.

We're getting off topic here, lets just say, for the lineup at EP (some people will love it some will not) IMO the cost is too much for the weekend. I agree the €180 is value for money if you want to go for three days and there are a host of acts you want to see. But for me there is not.

Plus I believe the capacity for EP has gone up to 30,000 making it quite a big event. I suppose by not selling day tickets they are limiting ticket sales to an affluent type of audience who can afford it. Kinda like banning sales of ciggies in 10's. You can only buy 20's.

One thing I don't get. Why do people keep on comparing Oxegen and EP? They are two different types of events with different audiences. They are chalk and cheese.

by the looks of the Hi Fi north and south festivals in england woule ye think that there will be a full line up similar to the other two with 4 or 5 stages or whatever there is. the full lineups for north and south are class.

they have these newfangled things called "holidays" now, you actually get paid for taking time off work:eek:
i'm happy to pay €180 for a 3 day festival of this calibre.
longer and bigger than last year's EP... it's gonna be ****ing brilliant:)

I'm keeping well away from the underage disco that is Oxegen this year. Was going to to go Electric Picnic but the line up at Hi-Fi is much more my cup of tea so I'll definitely head to that instead. I know the level of scum will probably be slightly higher as it's a Global Gathering thing but I'm looking forward to it anyway, should be good. I doubt Faithless will be at it, they're playing Marley Park in August.

This is true, I love faithless, went to see them when they played the point. they were brillo.
