Which Laptop?

I'd appreciate any advice on the following. I would like to buy a Laptop for hopefully no more than €1,200 (inc VAT). I would use it mainly as a media station, i.e. for storing photo's, internet browsing, downloading music and films. An important element for me would be the ability to play these films on my normal TV through the laptop (is this possible?)

I suppose ideally I'd like something along these lines......

    Processor 2GHz
    100GB Hard Drive
    1024MB SDRAM
    17” Screen

I seem to keep coming back to an Acer (TravelMate) or a Dell (Inspiron 9400).

    Any better suggetions?

Also, whats the deal with not paying VAT on Laptops purchased from the UK? Is this easy to do/get away with or do you have to know someone with a valid Irish VAT number?

Ya you need a valid Irish VAT number to get away with this.
