    Folks,
Firstly, I know that this has been asked before, but I want to ask again to see if we can find any new information. I've been trying to play two avi files here, but none of them are playing consistantly.
I'm looking for a stable viewer which is able to play quite recently-converted divx files. I've tried VLC and MPlayer etc, but both of them have crashed or failed to play either of the files.

    Any ideas?

I've been using VLC & Quicktime for almost a year. I've never had any major problems with either when playing AVIs. Sounds like you might have a problem with your AVI files as opposed to your software. Try converting your files into a diffrent format by usung ffmpegX. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15473

Yeah just use Isquint to convert....I had sound problems with some avi's that I wanted to watch on tv, so just used Isquint, click for TV and that's it, works well...

while we're on the subject, i think frontrow supports a few different formats but which format is best? furthermore, which program is best for converting?

So far I haven't been able to get any avis to open in Front Row, anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

    Cheers,
    S.

You can get plugins for quicktime that will let it play avi's, which will also let frontfor play them too
