I have a new IBM T41 thinkpad. Its well-specced with Pentium M 1.6 and 1 gig of ram. Problem is when dragging windows they appear to redraw themselves quite visibly instead of seamless dragging.Anyone know Is this just a setting or some deeper issue? Other than this the laptop is quite nippy.

    Are you running XP?
If so turn all of those stupid effects off by right clicking on "My Computer" - "Properties" "Advanced" Under performance, select "Settings" Click the radio box beside "Adjust for best performance".
The processor power to run some of these effects needs to be high enough-although with the proc you have it shouldnt be a problem, either way I always use this setting now matter how powerful the PC.
Give it a try and let us know how you get on.

its undoubtedly because the graphics driver isn't installed correctly.

Yep Astrofool's answer is the correct one. Install the correct drivers for your graphics card to solve this prob.

agreed..or else they're using the vga driver which is a well known issue with xp when reinstalling..just reinstall your video driver and everything should be hunky dory

I am assuming that the laptop came with XP factory installed-generally shouldnt be a problem with the installation of the graphics drivers in this case but it may be so the previous two posts could well be correct in assumption also......

Try windows update, it should be an optional hardware driver if you pick custom update.

NEVER install drivers from windows update. They always cause problems or a drop in performance I find.

Use the ones that came with your system, or newer ones on the manufacturers website. But NEVER install drivers via Windows Update.

thanks, it is the graphics driver.I had to reinstall XP using the IBM recovery program. But it doesn't include the correct video drivers(or USB it turns out). I'm downloading them now so hopefully they'll fix it.

    Thanks again
