Waht would you recommend? im looking to but a 4-6GB card for a new KM Dynax 5D and just wondering are there any disadvantages to microdrive as a 6GB MD is about the same cost as a 4GB CF card, thanks in advance for any info, cos i need to buy this tomorrow.

    cheers

Personally I wouldn't go for the "all my eggs in one basket" approach of just getting one huge card, whether it be CF or MD. Just imagine you're out with your new camera and you get a chance for some great photos and your card dies. You're basically stuck. Instead get a number of smaller cards, say 2 x 2GB, or 4 x 1GB. It'll maybe work out more expensive but you're covered in case of emergencies.

Oh yes, and as for MD reliability? It seems that if they do go wrong, they do so fairly quickly after you start using them. If you get a good one, they remain fairly reliable. Also it's mechanical rather than solid-state, so more to go wrong. Personally, I wouldn't bother.

Wouldn't really trust microdrives, prone to failure in my experience. Had to return a couple which failed. No explanation of problem from manufactuer. Guess the drives just failed. Have stuck to solid memory, CFs since, in assortment of 1GB and 2GB. You can never have too much in my opinion.

Good idea to have a few 1GB cards, if you have problems with 2GB or bigger then you may loose a batch. I suppose it depends on how much you shoot, and how important it is to you .

To prolong life of card, I have heard many pros don't delete images whilst shooting, but wait to download and edit after shooting. Remember to format card in camera rather than PC.
