The hoizon looks low in the first pic, can it be re-cropped? Lovely colours though, very nice.

The second picture has a very interesting subject yet it looks flat, I don't know why I say that, it just looks "flat"

The third picture, the rose plant is incomplete, cropping again perhaps?

Thanks for your comments Hagar. I will search out the originals and see if they can be recropped.

The sunset shot was taken from a boat on the river and I was concentrating on getting the sky rather than the water. The second was a negative scan when the film was being processed in Nashville. I can probably find a complete rose bush version of the third one but I was focussing on the military headstones.

I just tried out the sunset one as a desktop and it's perfect.

thanks. I got a bit of stick on another website from a French guy who has a bit of a chip about US symbols.

You have dust on your sensor, this is clearly visible on the statue of liberty picture but also on a "a view of manhattan". Easiest way to get rid of the spot is to clone it out with Photoshop. If you haven't cleaned your sensor yet, I recommend you do so. I had exactly the same problem a little while ago.

I bought a kit since then, used it and the sensor seems to be OK now. I was a bit squeamish about doing it though. Thanks for the suggestion.

I dont mean to sound like a prick, but none of those pictures draw out any interest in me at all.

Alot of em just look like any tourist/holiday snaps, especially "at the bronx zoo" and the statan islan ferry.

Try to make a cliched subject original in someway, in the future, would be my advice.

Thanks for your comments on the photos. The reason they look like tourist snaps is because that is exactly what they are. I wanted to record those places and these photos please me. I would be grateful if you could suggest how I could improve them though.

your columbus circle excited me, i would love it if you had used a long shutter speed, maybe thirty seconds to record the movement of people thus giving it a feeling of something more than a photo- you have a great photo eye developing- be aware of cliches though

It's taking a long long time though! I was on a long weekend in New York with my wife and daughter so I was very limited in the amount of gear I could bring - therefore no tripod I'm afraid.
