Have a job offer for a role that is very attractive to me and would like a little more by way of salary. Current employer will match and most likely exceed this offer.

How can you safely play both fronts without ending up with nowt?

Well which job do you want at the end of the day ? current job with more pay then potential employer or potential job with your estimated max pay they would offer ?

Possibly best way to play it is get the people who you arent working yet to max their offer. Then you are happy

If its all about the pay ask your current crowd for a raise and be happy
