I apologoise in advance if this question has already been asked but..... Do you need to connect a XBox 360 to a PC over a network connection (router, WI-FI) or can you directly plug the ethernet cable from the back of your PC into the back of your XBox 360. I was trying to do this last night but with no joy.

I think, as with most NIC to NIC connections, you would need a "Crossover" network cable to connect the Xbox directly to the PC without anything else in between.
It would not generally work with a standard network cable.
Theres some info on google regarding "Crossover Network Cables"
