I'm trying to find out why people are listening to podcasts today in Ireland and your opinion would be great! I'm currently doing my masters thesis on Podcasting and its effect on mainstream media in Ireland. I would REALLY appreciate it if you would answer some questions on Podcasting for me. Or you can just write about podcasting instead of answering the questions if you want, I just want to hear your thoughts on it! Will only take a few minutes! And you can just PM me if you want.

1)Why do you listen to podcasts? Is it because its convient as you can listen to them whenever you want? Because you find podcasts on areas that you wouldn't find on mainstream radio?

2)Do you listen to Podcasts on mostly your PC or iPod/MP3 player? And why?

3)Does the lack of advertising on Podcasts add to their appeal? Do you find there is too much advertising on mainstream radio? If Podcasts started to include advertisements would this decrease their appeal?

4)Would you pay to subscribe to a podcast?

5)Is the fact that podcasting is removed from corporate monoculture appealing? Is it refreshing to hear people talk about things they're and you're passion about rather than arbitrary chit chat?

6)What are you opinions on mainstream radio today? Do you think podcasting will have an effect on traditional broadcasting? And what changes do you feel need to be made?

Any other comments you want to add please do!

    THANKS A MILLION!
And I'll possibly see you at the Podcasting Awards on the 1st ;)

more specialised content, for free and without being interrupted by a commercial every 15mins. commercial radio today seems to always play 3 bland songs that cater to as wide a demographic as possible, followed by an ad with about 3 minutes of chatter from the DJ in every hour. i like listening to talented DJ banter. it makes a show!

2)Do you listen to Podcasts on mostly your PC or iPod/MP3 player? And why?

MP3 Player. Listen to them going to bed/on the bus

3)Does the lack of advertising on Podcasts add to their appeal? Do you find there is too much advertising on mainstream radio? If Podcasts started to include advertisements would this decrease their appeal?

like i said before, no ads is a big draw for me. also, yes, far too much advertising on mainstream radio. radio stations are just being greedy. their overheads couldn't possibly be that high that they need to play about 8 ads after every 3 songs

including ads in podcasts WOULD decrease their appeal if it's done the same as "normal" radio. if the ads don't cut into a good show and don't go on forever, then i could live with it

4)Would you pay to subscribe to a podcast?

no. if i have to pay for 1, then you can be damn sure there's another one of equal quality out there for free

5)Is the fact that podcasting is removed from corporate monoculture appealing? Is it refreshing to hear people talk about things they're and you're passion about rather than arbitrary chit chat?

yeah. like i said, i like how i can download a podcast on very specific topics

6)What are you opinions on mainstream radio today? Do you think podcasting will have an effect on traditional broadcasting? And what changes do you feel need to be made?

mainstream radio today is bland rubbish. anything good that comes along gets ripped off everywhere else. there's too many ads, and the quality of DJ's at the moment is appauling.

changes? less ads, better DJ's, more focused programming.
