    Hi All,

Can anyone recomend a good place (cheap!) to buy a couple of spools (I probably need about 500m) of CT100. Am re-wiring a house and going to put lots of CT100 in for sky digital etc..etc...

Also, can anyone recomed where I would get all the rest of the accessories such as face plates, distribution boxes etc..etc..

    Ta,
    Jab

If you're going to get 500M, then Radionics have:
    500 m 388-798 € 330,00 (belden)

    500M RS Stock No. 525-9285 € 289,50

thats expensive, 500m usually gets a fair discount

Yes even Maplin is 82 per 100m = 205 Euro. And Byte reckons that is very expensive.

Radionics/RS has a great stock but in 30 years I have never found them even approaching cheap.

Screwfix Direct has Satellite Cable here among other satellite essentials at £106.50 or €154.19 for 500metres of Black and £111.58 or €161.54 for 500 metres of White cable. at todays exchange rate!

If you could get it delivered to somewhere in Britain or the North even, I'm not sure if they sell to the Republic or not! Just shows the price difference between here and across the Irish Sea!

    Hope this helps!

[EDIT] just looking again they do it even cheaper here :) [EDIT]

buy a blank plate and drill four holes. Use the double ended socket "F-Barrels on plate.

Indeed, no bargains at Radionics, but their cable is the best quality I've seen - really strong copper foil and thick mesh. The free delivery is a help too for those outside the Pale.

As a wise man once observed:

The cheapest is not always the best value though.

That being said B&Q had 50 or 100M rolls of Philex PH100 some time back which was also pretty high quality but they haven't stocked it in a while. The current 25M coils are good but depending on the lengths of your cable run, you might end up with a lot of wasted 'ends'.

BTW I have Maplins down as €1.25 per metre for FT100 (€625/500M!) - do they stock some other grade?

Yep, it's what I call RG6 cable. You can tell because it has an aluminium rather than copper shield, and is usually a bit thinner too (the shielding, that is). Used to be common for Sky Analogue installiations in the 1990's but SKy now forbid their use for digital installiations - as a proof of point, when our Sky digital service was being fitted in, they retained the existing RG6 cable. This was replaced three years later with a noticable improvement in signal quality.

RG6 isn't too bad - it's fine for "budget" installiations for VHF/UHF TV, running a second lead to a bedroom TV etc. It is certainly much better than ordinary "TV coax" in terms of signal loss, crosstalk and keeping out interference but CT/WF100 will better it still. Main disadvantage with RG6 is that if water gets through the sheath, the foil and braid will rust when wet.

Somebody buy this fella a pint!....
There was me looking for a complex expensive solution to a simple problem!...
FFS!...feel a bit stupa for not thinkin of this myself!

Now if anyone can tell me how to cut out square holes to fit RJ45 connections into a blank, I really will buy you a pint!!!!

Use a metal plate, drill hole and tighten up a retangular "punch"/"die" bolted through hole . Radionics do them.

But loads of places to RJ45 outlets. 4 way are double gang size and harder to get and 2 way fi on a single gang outlet.
