Need your ideas on a birthday present for an 18 year old. I want to get him something that he can have for years to come, be it memories or an object. What ideas do you all have? What do you remember most about your eighteenth birthday, those obviously over 18 !

My 18th was 3 months ago and all I got was money; I didn't have any ideas, so the money was handier, since I could buy what I wanted when I thought of it :)

I gather that's not what you had in mind though!

I got money, really pretty jewellery that was timeless so I can wear it for years, a champagne flute and a PS2 from my friends.

Find out what music CD he might want. Or a DVD. DVD's are great presents.

the ceremonial "key to the house" is a nice, albeit tacky keepsake. I know you can get those for 18 and 21. I've still for my 18th one, and that was 11 years ago that I got it.

I've had a key since I was 12, didn't realise it was a ceremonial thing :p Now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure I had the same one until a month ago when we changed the doors  wow, I'm responsible!

On a side-note, my brother is 26 and he doesn't take a key with him anywhere (unless he's driving)

Well if he is into cars, maybe a day at Mondello park, racing around in a single seater....

Now i would have loved that for my 18th

    Money...

    A Nice watch....

If he owns a car, and is into the modifying scene maybe consider some kind of accesory (Steering wheels/Pedals/Seats etc?)

If he has a certain Hobby (Ie flying) How about paying for some lessons or even hot air baloon trip around the country? lol Pretty soggy ideas i know but hey, i tried!

    Failing all of those mind...
Get a few of his mates together, A few crates of bud and a stripper...
    Sure he wont forget that!

www.topgift.ie has those racing car days and quad biking, flying lessons. But I think if you contact the place directly (just google them) it will cost you less than through the website. But will give ya some ideas.

    An expensive watch.

I got an expensive watch off my friends for my 21st...it was 2 years ago, but it's still probably my most prized possesion.

Failing that (and presuming you're willing to break the bank :p) either a iPod nano, a laptop or a top class phone...or how about something more sentamental (czech?)... I'm presuming you're a aunt/uncle or parent? How about a heart felt card telling them how proud you are of them and how loved they are etc. :)

I know its sounds boring but money or gift vouchers are the best way to go. An Post do great "all for one vouchers" where the person can spend it in hundreds of different places. Its a great choice especially since 18 year olds have a lots of stuff already
