Late Tourney Play

Just want to know what people make of my play here. This hand is from PPP irish open sat and we were down to 19 players. Top 6 got tickets with 7th getting over 3k too.

I had about 14.5k left and blinds were 1200/2400. Table was fairly aggressive and we were not seeing many flops. I had just been getting blinded away for last 2 rounds as had no cards and made one move that had to drop after an all in.

UTG raises to 8200, this was a big raise at this stage as general raise was to about 6500. It looked like a steal to me and i was UTG+2. I picked up AJs and pushed. UTG had about 30k before this hand but had been short stacked and had just doubled up through chip leader at our table.

What ppl think of this play?

Let him have it. What are you basing your opinion of a steal on? What does he need to have to make a 'steal' from UTG with a decent stack in a tournament that pays 6 ( or 7) at this stage? And what do you think your ahead of with AJs here? If he does this with AT he's an idiot. If thats the case then let him donk chips to you later. If you have bigger stacks on your table you want them to your right....dont you?
Find a better spot and hand. This is not it. If you do have to pay the blinds here you still have a stack with decent fold equity.

Realise he's got pot odds to call with any two cards. Then ask yourself how much you like AJ. You are either racing or dominated.

You say it looks like a steal I say it looks like you want to call because you have picture cards for the first time in a while.

I agree with you both that it was a bad move and that i lost patience. Just felt i was getting shortstacked and needed to make a move but bad timing really. Had played well up to this point and been very patient so was really pissed off with myself after the game.

Reason i thought it was a steal attempt is that bet was lot bigger than any previous raises at this level and it looked like he did not want any callers.

Easy fold. Best you're looking at is a race. I made a similar donkey play with AQ recently with 2 all-ins before me.

His bet does look like it doesnt want a call, but thats not all he is saying, it also is the type of bet that says "i like my hand enough to not get pushed around"

Seeing as we all agree that i made a stupid push. What do people think that the original raiser had?

Some form of pocket pair. I'll hazard a guess at an AA played as if he's on the steal and looking for a sucker to call? :p

From under the gun, having recently just doubled through from being a shortstack this late on in the tournie. At least 99 more than likely a little better tho
(Please let it not have been me!!!! :D )

    He had cowboys!

Was not you ger, saw u get lucky with your snowmen when you get all in with 14 left against someone with bullets and you caught your 8 on the turn.

Thought that would have got you your ticket but saw the results afterwards.

I've successfully made the same move before. The bet is saying I dont want a caller, but really its hiding a monster, so i'm not particularly surprised that he had KK. This works even better if you've been making a few moves, as eventually people get fed up. I had a guy double me up i the 100k two weeks ago when I pushed 3 times in a row, the 3rd time he called with A4 against my KK.
