The Masters - Who are you Betting on?

OK, so the Players whetted our appetites for some top class golf on an amazing course. Congrats to the few who backed Ames early.

Now, who are you backing for the Masters?

    My tips are

Mike Weir - former winner, back to form, currently 50/1 with Gamebookers.ie

Jose Maria Olazabal - in form, former winner, currently 66/1 with game bookers.

I am avoiding Tiger until his dad is better, or whatever. Avoid the Irish also.

Oberholser looks like a promising young golfer, but first time out at Augusta will surely be too much.

Back Olly E/W at 66/1 and stick a euro or two on Weir to Win.

I've had Ernie backed for the last few weeks... But haven't really looked at the rest yet to be honest..

As for the Players, the less said the better..
Love - shot an 83 on day 2.
    Scott - shot 80+? on day 3.
VJ - shot a +5 on final day..

Not a good championship for me anyhow!!

I'm backing, yet again Sergio. I alwyas abck him for everything caue i love him to bits.

But atfer this weeks performance, and currently im watching him do well in the Tavistock cup, i think he has a major chance, he is putting really well.

Yeah but he is like Darren Clarke, shoots three great rounds and F*cks up one. Capable of shooting 66, 68, 67, 82

I'm backing Els. Not a great price but he has a pretty good record round there. Also on the record as really liking the changes.
Clarke apparently burnt it up last year (in practice) and flopped. He has the patriotic bet. Very inconistent I know.
Of the rest might do DiMarco (assuming recovered) if a big enough price.

Paddy Power have the worst odds by far for the Masters, particularly the Irish ones.

You can compare bookmakers odds for golf ... and other sports at this site - worth doing particularly in golf as there can be huge differences ... one bookie may be 33/1 and another 50/1 etc.

My fiver's on David Toms at 40/1 ... as long as his bottle holds up

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,641 ✭✭✭andyman

I put a fiver on Sergio Garcia. After seeing TPC I was going to put it on Olazabel. I just can't see him do it though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 387 ✭✭css

The goose mightn't be a bad bet, he's been playing well for the last few weeks and is a good iron player.. He has the bottle too, which helps!

Apart from that, i'm not really sure to be honest.. Like i said i've got ernie done too..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 393 ✭✭BillyBoy

I think i'll throw a few euro on Olazabel. If players have to hit long irons into greens because Augusta is so long, then Jose is the one person I'd put money on cause his iron play is so good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,987 ✭✭✭Trampas

If Jose can put it in the short stuff of the tee he will have a chance if his driving goes he will be nowhere

The odds on the goose and jose have plumetted in the last week thanks to their good showing at the last 2 tourneys.. :(

DiMarco at 50/1. He is proven on the course and 3rd time lucky.
Westwood at 100/1. I always have a bet on Westy!
I will do another bet but its between Furyk(who I hate watching but is playing well) and Toms.

5pts E/W Phil Mickelson 9-2(Betting w/O T woods). In the form of his life, won the bell south classic by a country mile. In with a great chance of claiming another Major.

2Pts E/W Retief Goosen 9-1. Played beautifully in the final round of the Bell South Classic last weekend. Hardly missed a put.

1 Pt Each Way Scott Verplank 100-1. Rarely has a bad tournament. Should give a run for your money at a big price.Seems to have a habit of fading away in final rounds. though

Has Monty not pulled out of the Masters?? saying he was gonna give it a miss bacause he has missed the last 4 cuts

Good odds on Harrington - i have him at 40/1 with Paddy power - should shop around more

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,047 ✭✭✭Culchie

lol, I was on holidays last couple of weeks, so would have missed news on Monty ... I think it will be a void bet on betfair if he's a non starter anyway.

Paddy Power usually worst site for golf value odds.

Use http://odds.bestbetting.com/ to shop around for your best markets....in golf there are huge differences

David Toms 40-1 so consistent this year
David Howell 50-1 (fantastic stats this year, www.pgatour.com)
Henrik Stenson 66-1 playing great stuff this year

harro has no chance of winning it, it'll be tiger, vijay, mickelson, goose territory, harro hasn't played well enough to inspire any confidence, plus the more advantaged golfers in regard to money and technology have the better chance, you need a guy who's very strong and long but not wayward, and has to be good with the long irons, i'd expect tiger to only be hitting about 75% drives, if he starts that unleashing he could go anywhere, and the course is too hard for lads going all over the place,

ps i think they ruined some of the holes with the length

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

The last time the Bel South and Masters were won back to back was 1988 so Mickelson is unlikely to make anyone rich.

Luke Donald might be worth a fiver....

    Mike.

harro has no chance of winning it

Maybe, Maybe not. I don't begrudge putting a few quid on him at 60/1, he is certainly value at that price.

He is Irish.... when you think they will win they let you down..... when you write off their chances, they give it 'loads'.

Methinks he'll be in and around the house.

    My Bets,

    Mickelson €10 To Win @ 6/1
    Weir €2.50 E/W @ 40/1
    Toms €2.50 E/W @ 40/1

Can never seem to bet on the outright winner so:

    €10 @ 5/1 L.Donald - Best European
    €10 @ 4/1 H.Stenson - Top Debutant
    €10 e/w @ 10/1 S.Garcia (-8 shots) - 72 Hole Handicap (PP)
€10 Langer, Calcavecchia, Bjorn & Couples all to make the cut

The 2 Davids for me -

    €10 e/w on Toms (40/1) and Howell (50/1).

    Accumulator - Langer 4/7, Calcavecchia Evens, Bjorn 8/11 & Couples 4/9.
I put this through a accumulator calculator thing and it works out just under 8/1 (78.xx for my 10euro hopefully!!!)
