Just in case anyone had come across this problem of when starting up your Iriver 5gig media player and came across a message like *System files missing, please goto iriver.com for recovery tool fix*.

Now this was one I got from a mate of mine(It was his sons).I said must be just a firmware update,no problem.Well I was wrong, the device was detected by my pc and on Iriver lcd it said Usb connected. But it wouldnt show up in my computer as a removable device.

I went through some known fixes of writting *Cmd,then typing sc stop umwdf, then sc start umwdf* but to no avail. Then tried some regedit as was suggested but nothing.

Then I came across a site which someone posted that when you start up Iriver you can hear the hard drive going clank clank if held to ear.So I put my mates Iriver to ear and heard the *Clank Clank*.

So I went though a step by step of opening the Iriver and dismantling it and peeling off stickers of hard drive and physically moving hard drive arm to the right gently and by god it worked.

    Try at own risk btw....Link
