dont bother, three of my mates 360's(hdd versions) have since stopped working, glitching etc, save your money and get the ps3, psp2 or revolution whenever they come out.
    360=crap!
and no my mates didn't abuse there 360's, just regular use.

Have a look around this forum. There are countless similar threads asking this very question. They're either €300 or €400, depending on whether you get the hard drive.

Ah I love these gerneralisations :D
Personally I love mine and have had no problems since day 1, and neither has anybody else I know. There has been some cases of faulty systems but MS have replaced the items very quickly (within a week). My advice would be get one in the shops here if you want one. But I can't really say if it is worth it to you as I have no idea what you are into! But like I said I love mine.

There has been quite a number of people who've had trouble with theirs, and though Microsoft's customer care is second to none, you may have a bit of hassle if you're getting it off ebay and the console is registered in someone else's name.

Personally I wouldn't buy the console off eBay. Firstly it would probably cost a fortune to post (the premium pack weighs a ton) and secondly, I wouldn't be suprised if customs got hold of it and charged you VAT.

I know a lot of people had problems with their 360s. Personally I didn't have any issues and I'm guessing that we'll be seeing less and less of these problems as time goes on.

Well same thing happened at the ps2 launch. bugy ass disc drives.

Also, MS are very quick to sort out any problems.

Also, Ive had mine since launch, and it NEVER caused me a problem whatsoever.

I have one and if I were you, I wouldn't bother, I regret buying mine on launch day, I have never been so underwhelmed by a console and I've gone through them all. For the price they cost, the quality (and limited choice) of games available to the huge amounts of faults that 2/5 360 owners seem to have, it's just not worth it (yet)..

I'll never understand how people forget things so quickly!
Pretty much every console ever has had problems when they are first released!
Yes I had a problem with my 360 after I got it on launch day, but guess what!
I had a problem with my PS2 that I bought on launch day too!!!
And while Microsoft have an amazing returns policy, Sony have a lot to work on!

Also, why did everyone get pissed off about the small amount of titles available on release!
Yet again, every console release has been like this!
they only release a small few titles in the first quarter after release, and then begin to flood the market in the subsequent months!
Honestly! some people here sound like the Americans who re-elected Bush, then got surprised when they realised that they had an idiot for a president!!!

That's not really where I'm coming from, I have a Nintendo DS which suffered the lack of games-itus that currently plagues the 360 yet I never stopped enjoying it since I got it. When I bought the Dreamcast when that first came out there were hardly any games yet I still got a great deal of fun out of it, the 360 just hasn't done it for me, it's missing a wow factor, I don't feel there's anything new being offered by it or the PS3 (the only console that really intrigues me is the Revolution).

It's a common enough catchphrase by now, but upping the quality of the textures and polygons on screen won't herald in a new era of gaming, new forms of interactivity with games are needed to reinvigorate a stagnant market (why else does the DS, Singstar and games like Buzz sell so well? - because they're different), maybe I'm growing out of gaming (I'm 22 and have been playing games since I was 7) or maybe I've been playing the same games over and over again (never more apparent since the inception of the PS1).

Obviously as I own a 360 I'm going to give it a chance, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it, I'm just disappointed with it and I'm not the only one.

Well if it turns out you dont enjoy oblivion, then you should stop gaming, best 360 game thus far.... and the'll be some even sweeter titles before the ps3 is released.

(far cry, gears of war, frame city killer, dead rising etc...) :)

atm for me, oblivion is amazingly addictive.

My oblivion hasn't come yet, its been a long time since I've been addicted to a console game(addicted to football manager), I'm thinking I might just be goin off them. But oblivion should be here today so we'll see!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭Ri_Nollaig

if oblivion isnt a reason to own a 360 i dont no wat is! (if u dont have a good enough PC) ironicly i have it on PC :D (purely for the mods/expansions that will come later) but the 360 version is just as good (eurogamer gave it 10/10, ign 9.3) and you dont need to worry about system requirements etc. Ghost recon is also an amazing game that i just cant seem to find time to play cause of oblivion :(
also you should note that both these games where orginialy going to be launch titles as well as gears of war but where delayed in the closing few weeks, just something that anyone who says "list x of games for ps3 launch games is better" should think about.

oh and i also have never had a problem with my 360 since i got it at launch. only thing i have agasint it is the prices of games in shops 70ish! ofcourse if u dont mind waiting then just buying online sorts that problem :)

as good as oblivion looks(not buying it till after the leaving) and is by all accounts would you really buy a €400 console just for one game. I'm sure there are other great games but oblivion seems to be the only one of such standard out and for a good while to come.

BS, most people who want this game, have upgraded there pc's ffs. 360 has some v. good games, and more to come

(graw, fight night, far cry, oblivion, pgr3)

    and games down the road

dead rising, frame city killer, final fantasy, gears of war etc...

I think I have to agree with Laguna on this one. He said it very well.

As much consoles as I have had, Including the 360. Unfortunetly after spending 500 on it, I have to say it just doesn't do it for me. As amazing is it can look ( or in some cases, Doesn't ) It really just doesnt have that wow factor. To take real advantage of it, You also need a HD TV. I think it looks quite unclear and sh**ty tbh on a normal TV.

But in saying that, The 360 does bring alot of fun, It just doesnt hold the wow factor. I really like it, But if you were planning on saving for a period of time, Don't. If money isn't much to you, Go ahead. ITs a good console, just not as good as expected.

Lets hope the next consoles ( revolution, PS3 ) bring among something a little more Wow.

    Hj

I'm sorry, but you obviously aren't using your 360 properly!
To refer to singstar(a karaoke machine!) as innovative, and say that the 360 is just better graphics is ridiculous!
    What about xbox live?
The 360 is the first console to properly do online gaming. They've made it an integral part of the games, rather than just a feature like it was with the xbox. and from all the reports coming out, the PS3 online set-up, will leave a lot to be desired!
Also, the connectivity between console and a PC, through media centre is simply revolutionary! I can watch movies, listen to music, and access files from my PC through my xbox. And with Microsoft setting up a team to design new ways for the 360 to interact with Vista when it comes out, I'm chomping at the bit!
I've had every console since the Nes and the Master system (and I had a Commodore 64 before them!), and i think that the connectivity on the 360 is one of the most innovative concepts ever to come out in a console!

Well if I'm anything to go by, then you're in luck! The only game that I've been addicted to in years are the football manager series, and the only reason that I haven't played that all weekend, is that I can't stop playing Oblivion!!!

I have a 360, and it broke. But it was replaced quickly and i'm still very happy I bought it. Of all the consoles I've bought this has felt like the biggest generation gap. PS2 = PS1 with better graphics(same goes for cube/n64 and dreamcast/saturn), SNES = NES with better graphics, Megadrive = Master System with better graphics. The 16 - 32 bit jump was a fairly large transition to 3d, but this is the first time the enhancements have gone way beyond graphics.

Turning on my 360, browsing the marketplace, picking up a demo of a yet to be released game and playing it(then, in the case of Blazing Angels, knowing never to part with cash for it), going for a high score on Live Arcade in a puzzle game or retro shooter, flicking on an episode of Stargate streamed from your computer, starting up Project Gotham Racing and playing the seamless online career mode which feels as smooth as one player but with real opponents as you race and stream your own mp3 library from your PC as you go, then finally loading up Oblivion and not noticing as day turn to night and back to day.

By the way that might sound like overhyping, but I did all of the above apart from Project Gotham Racing this weekend, and thats only because I've already done Project Gotham to death since December. Yes, that is including not noticing day turn to night and back again...

Up until the last week, actual full retail games that fulfilled the console's potential have been a bit thin on the ground, but GRAW(even if its a bit short for my liking) and Oblivion have been worth the wait.

Extra features are normally better in theory than practice, my PSP is crap as an mp3 player or web browser and 6 years later I still haven't got the hang of playing DVDs with a PS2 controller, but the Dashboard stuff really does make the 360 way more than graphics or anything else(not that its too shabby in that department)

Disclaimer: I have Broadband, and a Media Centre PC, and a HDTV. You really need them, in that order of importance, for the console to fulfil its true potential.

Less than 2yrs ago I spent €300 on a gfx card which won't even play Oblivion now. I'm happy I have a 360 so I don't have to mess around with settings etc. I still play plenty of games on my PC (COD2, FEAR etc) but I'm not going to fork out to upgrade again.

I agree with steviec, you really need broadband and HDTV (or vga cable and computer monitor) maybe not the media PC.

This console would be average beyond belief nay crippled without broadband. While i agree with other posters there are some good games on the 360, Oblivion is the only game I'd go out and buy the console for. Luckily my housemate has one and I jus play his (thanks Mike :D ) but if he were to move out I would really consider getting one to play my Oblivion save game.

Also all the mods for Oblivion will not be downloadable via live only a small amount as Microsoft cant guarantee the full functionallity of these mods, plus the mods are written to run on the PC not the 360 so the majority wouldn't work anyway. They are releasing horse armor on live though.

    Oblivion ftw!!
