Just wondering but what sort of equipment do I need to boost the signal coming from Wales so much so I can pick up British channels from Cork ?

I know there are booster kits etc but I don't have much knowledge in this area.

You will not be able to receive directly from Wales anywhere in Cork.
IF you are on the Northside (particulary Mayfield ,Tivoli, Silversprings) you should be able to receive South Coast (licenced deflector ) from Carrigaline)
Reception from 2 other transmitters maybe possible to the East (Mahon/Blackrock). Just an aerial (wideband or grouped) masthead amp and power supply unit should be all you need. Most of Cork City gets nothing at all though. Try Free-to-air satellite?

Your best bet is a 60cm to 80cm dish and a FTA satellite receiver. Once off cost between 150 Euro and 300 Euro depending on model, dish size and if you get it installed or DIY

    It does these free:

Also true Widescreen on many channels.

Far more BBC & ITV than from South Coast Comunity TV deflectors, and perfect quality.

I put a 2nd Sky Digibox in for a friend for 100 Euro inc C4 & Five (what he paid for all the gear, I did work for nothing :) ) and did a motorised system where the guy had a cheap 60 Euro box and 100 Euro motor from Maplin. The brackets, bolts, coax and dish cost same amout again.

So there are good bargains about for the DIYer too. Lots of advice on these boards on install. (You need to be able at least to drill 4 holes for masonary fixings and one to let the coax into your house.).

I'm not in the install business, but again you can check the stickies and threads here for advice for Cork.

Sure Watty. Am hoping just to go for a full sub on SKy Digital. Only problem is trying to get C4.

I could always get an english FTV card but this would envolve me getting a second digibox with all the complications that would lead to.

I was running 3 digiboxes and a PC off one dish. What sort of complications?

You don't need a Sky sub at all. IMO the Movies not worth it. Buy DVDs of the ones you really like. (lots of Internet reviews).

The Sport Premium is for Sport folks. otherwise not.

    That leaves Mix packs

    6, 4 or 2 packs.
The Knowledge and Variety are OK.
The music is worthless as plenty of good free music on Satellite. TV and Radio.
The kids pay channels IMO not really worth it. You can get CBBC and Cbeebies, CITV, POP and Tiny Pop free.
The news pack is not worth it. Sky, CNN, Euronews and BBC news 24 all Free.
The Lifestyle pack is all repeats you can see 1st time on BBC etc. Bad value.

So really the 2 Mix packs variety + knowledge (< 22 Euro) and optionally Sky Sports Premium and/or Setanta pack (5 or 6 sport channels inc NASN).

You can use a FTV card on a Sub box, but probabily unplug phone. A phoneless install is 37.50 Euro extra and worth it. (No storms to wreck box or running up bills on interactive).

nial1234, get a FTV card from the uk and an Irish sky package and when you want to watch c4 or c5 power down the receiver for 60secs remove the irish card, insert the uk card , power on the receiver and after 3-4 minutes you will have bbc1 on 101, bbc2 on 102, itv1 on 103 c4 on 104 and c5 on 105, repeat procedure to get back to irish sky
