Oh my sweet fooking god.... I heard about this last week and cringed.
It's bad enough they try and get hype for it by bring the judges on Tubridy last night.

One good thing is that (apparently) "the majority of money raised during tele-voting going to the charity".

RTE really went all out to attract major celebs for this one it seems....

    Jigs 'n' Reels contestants revealed
The line-up for RTE's new reality show 'Celebrity Jigs 'n' Reels has been revealed, with boxer Michael Carruth and former Eurovision star Dana among those taking part.

Joining them in donning their Irish Dancing shoes will be television presenter Emma O'Driscoll, 'Fair City' star Killian O'Sullivan (Lorcan Foley), tenor Paul Byrom, costume designer Jen Kelly and beautician Suzanne Walsh, who also starred in 'The Salon'.

The Marty Whelan-hosted show, which begins on RTÉ One at 6.30pm on Sunday 26 March, will feature the seven celebrity contestants facing off against each other in a bid to impress the judges and the voting public with their Irish Dancing skills.

The judges for the show are Jean Butler, Colin Dunne, George Hook and Robert O'Byrne, with each contestant partnered and tutored by a professional Irish Dancer.

Each contestant will dance to a contemporary Irish rock and pop soundtrack, including U2, Van Morrison, The Thrills, Paddy Casey and Divine Comedy.

After each show the public will be able to vote for their favourite contestant, with the results broadcast after the 9 o'clock news.

Each contestant will represent a charity chosen by them, with the majority of money raised during tele-voting going to the charity.

Three contestants will battle it out in the Grand Final on Sunday 30 April.

oops - just saw a thread already open about this here:

I was almost feeling it up until this point. Almost. Then I just realised what a load of cack it really was...

YAS is gone for another year, they need something to fill the time slot and the coffers and bullsh*t like Celebrity Come Dancing and Stars on Ice seem to have done very well on UK channels, so of course a clone show was always going to be on the cards.
The charitable aspect is about all it has going for it in my eyes. But why only "some"? Either it's for charity or it's not.

That redhead pro dancer Susan is a bit of a fox. Dana was surprisingly alright - she danced a bit like Shirley temple at the start.

Having said that, the show is poo.

I was just about to start a thread about this!! My ****ing god, can RTE ever come up with anything themselves rather than making a B-rate version of something they saw on BBC or ITV...it's embarresing how sh*t that channell is...

[edit]was just watching it there...it's now prime-time TV...on a Sunday afternoon...infact it is now prime time TV of the whole week.

Please now tune your TV to RTE. A show about the Irish weather and random people being interviewed about absolute crap...and what they like and dislike about the weather...

Even if they would just pay the BBC to use the proper Strictly Come Dancing format, it might be something - but everything they do is just a cheap, tacky knock off

Well I have to say just watched it and I enjoyed it, RTE show a hell of alot worse, and its not as serious as come dancing, they are celebrates and its for good causes. That english bloke is way out of his league on the panel, by his own admission he knows nothing about irish dance.

I actually thought the show was alright. Dana was pretty good, and while a lot of the celebs were pants it was enjoyable to watch. I don't think anyone can blame RTE for doing a show that is similar to a sucessful UK one. Its a tried and tested format and it pulls in viewers. Complain all you like but its obviously appealing to a lot of people.
