Was in Kilkenny yesterday and was not impressed with the donation seekers on the street. One in particular was been very aggressive. Sayin the usual fist "Support the ...." and when people wouldnt respond she would actuallly come close to hteir face and say "Excuse ME, support the ....".

AS it happens they were collecting for The Irish Cancer Society. Now on a weekend where people are more than happy to give their money to support Daffodil Day I think these guys really got it wrong. I saw two girls and they were clearly motivated by commission.

Can anyone here prove that they are on commission? I worked a similar position in America for a while and we were on commission and it was horrible been encouraged to press people for more money.

Heard the Cancer Society had a terrible day because of the weather.

It was in the paper yesterday that they were expecting to make losses of about €500,000, but it turned out they did quite well in the end...

well i was asked by a mate to work with one of those charities last summer. €13.50/h with extra's for hitting certain targets

don't entertain them at all. they're in it for the money, not the love of humanity. if you want to donate, write a cheque/postal order directly to the charities

so they get paid €13.50 even if they don't get any signups?

yup. during the year, though, sociology students (or one of those subjects anyway) have to volunteer themselves for grades

They'd get a legit punch in the face from me if they pulled that sh*t - guaranteed.

I dont mind people on the streets seeking donations, but this aggresive in your face attitude is disgusting.

i used to get really annoyed when i was younger because i equate this with harassment , now i dispell it with humour, i would say (in a dublin accent) "sorry mate i don't speak english" they laugh i get a giggle, they gp for the next person

The collector the OP is referring to is outside the shop I work in in Kilkenny every Saturday. They harass the staff going in and out to work, going on their luch etc, and also the customers entering and exiting the shop. The same lady asks me 10 times a day "Do you wish to support the cancer society"?. She's not exactly a chugger, as shes only selling scratch cards and not trying to pry your bank details off you, but dammit shes aggressive!
