Super Monkey Ball: Touch & Roll

Imported this via eBay a while ago, even though it's out over here since early March.

It's very similar in appearance to the Monkey Ball games on the Gamecube, as in the graphics are functional, the monkeys themselves look cute, the mazes/traps don't push the technical limits of the DS. You control your monkey via the d-pad or touch screen, I personally use the touch screen as a game like Super Monkey Ball needs analogue control due to some of the intensely finite moves you need to pull off to get to the goal of each level, the d-pad not being able to cut it in regards to fine tuning your movements. There's a small selection of mini games included on the cartridge to add a small amount of variety to the slightly monotonous main game, of which include Monkey Golf (good fun), Monkey Wars (FPS with strange controls), Monkey Air-Hockey (surprisingly entertaining), Monkey Race (self-explanatory) and Monkey Fight (odd game where you just, well.. hit each other), plus there's two other mini games which I can't remember the name of.

Overall, I was quite disappointed with this game, not that I was expecting it to be the BEST GAME EVER(tm), it's just that for what it is (a simple puzzle game of which I enjoyed previous incarnations of on the Gamecube), it's executed poorly, with a dodgy control system (the touch screen too imprecise) and, frankly, repetitive and boring gameplay with little or no fun to be had from multiplayer.

    6/10
